Before someone complains, this is not about bestiality, but rather I'm thinking of aliens or intelligent fantasy creatures.

Anyway I usually have trouble thinking of endings for stories, especially endings which allow the characters to have sex throughout the story (rather than, say, being kept apart by obstacles for several chapters, then when they finally get to screw the conflict is over). So I was asking myself what kind of accomplishment would be an exciting yet logical result of story full of sex, and I thought, ooh, what about the beginning of a new hybrid species?

So, anyone else think this is an interesting idea? Can anyone link to an example story of this type? Or how about worldbuilding ideas explaining why the hybridization is possible (since with real genetics the two parent species have to be closely related to produce children, but it would be boring to write about hybridization between two species who aren't very different).

I think it's perfectly fine (and was more or less going to be how my 'The Captive' story was going to end as well). I personally wouldn't even worry about the need to explain how this cross-species reproduction is possible -I don't think there are a ton of erotic stories that fall into the category of 'hard science fiction'.

Think, imagine, write, change and make a good fable. Do not rush and work on your idea. Don't be afraid to modify, if you need. Try something rather more realistic, well, almost possible.

Oh yeah, I've wanted to experiment with those themes for a while now. Pregnancy fetishes aside, I think its interesting to use naga/lamiae* in fantasy erotica. In fact, I've experimented with the same theme in art, though never actually finished any pregnant naga stories... Yet. Personally, though, I tend to be rather fast and loose with genetics.

Really, the differences in anatomy between human and snake are pretty vast. For one, snakes have a cloaca rather than an actual vagina (and males have a two-fold penis, if you can believe that). Whats more, the cloacal vent is at the end of the tail, which just looks weird, so I tend to make the genitalia more human and move it up closer to the hips. You can actually see this on some of my sketches. I've also kept the womb in the human abdomen, rather than elongating it as would be the case with real snakes.

Fortunately, reproduction in real snakes is pretty broad. Some are viviparous (giving live birth; sea snakes, boas and some vipers), some are oviparous (egg laying; think pythons and cobras) and some are ovoviviparous (meaning the mother carries eggs in her body until they hatch). That means I've got a broad base of inspiration for my stories.

Personally, as far as WHAT the offspring are, that I haven't given much thought to. For the most part I've tended to assume they'd either be nagas/lamiae like their mother, or some humans with some minor snake-like features... maybe slitted eyes, cold blood, a forked tongue, snake-like shade to their skin, something exotic like that. In actual mythology several nobles and heroes did claim naga descent, which means I've got plenty of sources of inspiration to cannibalize.

But again, I don't worry much about genetics within a fantasy story. After all, if I've already established that wizards, monsters and the like exist, why worry about science now?

All that said, one idea I have experimented with has been the idea of fantasy creatures being used as breeding stock, to improve on race or another. Or even as some sort of exotic form of prostitution. Another idea I've seen was the idea of them carrying the young of another species...

Oh, I've attached an illustration of female naga genitalia I worked on for my sketches. Not part of any story, yet, just playing around with making all the parts work down there.

* TECHNICALLY not the same thing. In my stories, I tend to mix the two for any humanoid with the upper body of a human and the lower body of a snake. Like a mermaid. Naga (or nagini for a female, if you want to follow Sanskrit grammar) can in fact be shown in South Asian art as snakes with human torsos, snakes with human faces, gigantic snakes, snakes with multiple heads, beautiful humans, old venerable humans, or even water dragons (depending on how close you get to Chinese influence).

Lamia, originally a Libyan queen transformed into a monster in Greek mythology, is usually depicted the same. However, she is a singular entity, later corrupted into a race of vampire/succubi. I'm actually not sure off the top of my head whether lamia is both singular and plural (which could be the case) or if the artificial lamiae should be used for the plural. Modern Greek and Basque legendary is different from classical myth.

The idea that the offspring of a human and a semi-human creature like a naga would probably be either another naga or a slightly odd looking human is one reason I tend to stay away from semi-human races. My favorite fantasy creature is dragons (or bird-dinosaurs, which are like dragons but with feathers). Imagining the offspring of a dragon and a human, or two quite different kinds of dragons, gives more room to imagine a new race emerging from the combination. Or I am equally happy to go a science fiction direction and imagine aliens that coincidentally resemble the human idea of dragons. I also like felines, canines, equines, and... erm forgot the word for deer people.

I have some sketches like that around somewhere, although most of them are for figuring out how the male and female organs would fit together on a hermaphrodite character. Other ones of skeletons for different races, as well as some showing what animal spots or other markings would look like on a human form. :)

True that, but its easiest for me to get my head around human + humanoid fantasy creature stories, since at least the anatomy gives me some sort of starting point for figuring out computability. Besides, fantasy stories and games are full of half-elves, half-orcs, half-whatever you want really. Adding in half-centaurs, half-mermaid, half-naga (which do exist in Asian myth) or something else isn't too much of a stretch.

I certainly like the way your going too.. I have heard and seen dragon + human stories (and fantasy lit and gaming do indeed have dragon-human breeds sometimes). But none that put so much thought into it as you. I like it. Definately worth working through with.... Come to think of it, what I haven't seen are things like human + griffin, human + phoenix, human + kraken (that'd go over real well in
Japan I'd bet), human + manticore.... Lots of possibilities there.

As far as more humanoid critters go... be interesting to see a human + harpy or siren stories. That'd be weird. Or perhaps a new twist on the human + mermaid.

If you're looking for inspiration this site has plenty of artwork (of varying degrees of quality) of various girl-thing hybrids.

I've been trying to do a proper naga story (as well as some of the other obvious tropes) for ages. Still haven't figured out the right back story / character yet.

I would actually see the half-centaurs etc. not being too much of a stretch as a negative thing. I'm interested in the idea of the angsty halfblood who doesn't really fit in with either of his parents' races. Also if the dramatic event at the end of the story is the creation of a new race, the fewer races there were in the story to start with, and the more different the new race is from the two parent ones, the more dramatic it is. Also as a writer I just find making up original fantasy or alien races more fun than working with the traditional ones - its ok if they look basically the same, and I've called half a dozen different variants 'dragon' but I like to give them original biology and culture, and since I don't like stories with gods in them I like

Human/griffin is a very pretty mental image. :cattail:

I was kind of vaguely thinking of a series of short stories about a nobleman/mage whose fetish is watching interspecies sex and in particular impregnation, and raising the children to be servants on his estate. Thought it would be interesting to start with something simple like, him haveing a female human servant be impregnated by a dog or wolf. (Couldn't post it on lit of course :p but there are other archives.) Also have an adult male halfblood who had grown up badly-treated and with everyone prejudiced against him meet the nobleman and think it was really bizarre that anyone would think halfbloods were cool or purposely create them. Then for another story, have a hermaphrodite (my usual preference) character of a rare race, who always wanted to have a child but never found a mate, hear of the nobleman and investigate him to see if he really would take good care of a child left with him.

Now, here you've caught my attention (and given previous stories I've done, like 'Child Of The Klein Bottle' and Mercurius Bellus', this is right in my wheelhouse). My mind is kind of racing with ideas, but I actually do think you can write this on Lit. For one, the actual sex can take place 'off-screen', if we're dealing with straight bestiality material. With mythical creatures in a fantasy setting, I think there's a great deal more leeway. I can definitely see myself writing some variation on the perverted wizard story. For one, I always intended to continue 'Mercurius Bellus' story in some fashion, though that dealt with small fairy creatures rather than humans -though, as Aghnman said near the end:

"I expect you will continue to grow, depending," he told her. "At some point, you may even become human."

The wheels are turning now. I've been a long time since I've actually even read 'Mercurius Bellus', but now I think I've got some really interesting ideas to keep it going. One the one hand, I can go back to revisit the warlock Aghnman, and his particular sexual-alchemical experiments, or I can follow Lill and Anfi and whoever their new masters might be.

It's always tricky to write a story 'to-order', when one has many ideas of one's own that may well conflict, so I can't pretend that anything I come up with will suit your particular tastes, but I do feel like there's a really good hook here I can use to write something for Lit.

I wasn't asking for a to-order story, more kind of fishing to see if anyone wanted to co-write/roleplay, but you're welcome to write a story based on this concept, I'm not territorial about my ideas. :)
