In his book he admits to spending his spare time hanging with Marxist professors in college.

"To avoid being mistaken for a sellout,I chose my friends carefully. The more politically active black students. The foreign students. The Chicanos. The Marxist Professors and the structural feminists and punk-rock performance poets."

Religion is the opiate of the masses. -- Karl Marx, 1843

It's not surprising that they get bitter, they cling to . . . religion . . . as a way to explain their frustrations. -- Barack Obama, 2008

Oh my gosh. According to that logic, he might also be a structural feminist or a punk-rock performance poet.

*bites nails*

I won't join your party if I can't dance

hanging with Marxist professors in college

Actually, the Marxists were always the most FUN professors in college. In fact, if he was talking about UNDERGRADUATE, then we attended the same school (Occidental College) and the Marxist professors were the VERY BEST fun -- the most open-minded and generally most willing to see every side of the issues.

They weren't PROGRAMMING us, they were offering us alternatives to the standard pablum that was being served, and after all, isn't that what a "liberal arts education" is all about?

I don't think he's a Marxist, but he's also not a religious nutjob or ultra-conservative that would work to shut down sites like Literotica, which is, in my opinon, the only possible reason this would even be a subject of discussion in the arena.

Ok, I'm not a Obamma fan, but I don't think hanging out with marxist people - or being anti religion - makes you a marxist. He might very well BE a marxist, but by that logic I'm a bisexual dominant. You know, cause I hang out with them. I'm also jewish, an athiest, and a hindu.

Wow, no wonder I'm so confused. LOL

Dude, you can't walk five feet on any college campus without tripping over a Marxist professor. Yawn.

This sort of thing might be bad for his campaign with much of America who believe that only a CHRISTIAN leader would be okay.

But wait, lets look at the crap some of our Christian leaders have been doing to this country. Bush anyone???

For me, it just makes me like him better even though I think he is a Christian. At least he is a thinking and open one.

I am so sick of this campaign. He has been attacked every which way on such a variety ridiculous basis whereas other candidates continue to skate along well past the place they should have already gone down.

Yeah, what everyone else said, that is false logic. Hanging out with someone doesn't mean you automatically adopt their beliefs. I've hung out with some extreme right wingers, and obviously, that did not rub off on me.

Intellectual curiosity anyone?

At least Obama was hanging out with professors, rather than frat boys.

As Jon Stewart so eloquently put it last night...

"For this job, we want somebody A WHOLE LOT SMARTER than us."

The current occupant has demonstrated the danger of selecting the "leader of the free world" (at least in 2000) based on whether they would be "fun to have a beer with" as opposed to whether they have the necessary intellectual curiorsity, command of language, people skills, knowledge of history, broad experience with multiple cultures and governments, and the physical and mental fortitude to take on what CAN be one of most difficult jobs on the planet.

Of course it doesn't HAVE to be a difficult job. You can always decide to give over most of the responsibility to your assistant, in which case it's just a permanent vacation and the chance to play with big toys and act like a cowboy every now and then and read speeches (badly) off a telepromter while robbing the treasury, gutting fundamental rights, ignoring global issues, and destroying a country it took 200+ years to build.

</rant>

P.S. Only 279 more days of this crap. Hopefully.

Wow, that sure is some pretty definitive proof that Michelle and Barack Obama are trying to push a "socialist agenda." I mean, how could I even possibly refute that? If Glenn Beck takes a Michelle quote out of context and then tells me that she's a Marxist, and then argues that it's possible for everyone in America to have as much money as they could possibly want as long as they try to get it... I guess I'll have to believe him. He is yelling and he is on TV, and as we all know, yelling and being on TV is pretty indicative of correctness. How can you argue with that?

Yeah, and everyone poor in America is poor because they want to fail, they are upholding the right that was given to them by the founding fathers to fail.

(I don't know if I could possibly take anything in that clip seriously after he said that, sorry)

Don't give the sadist what he wants! Bad girl! Us liberal hottie submissives have to remain calm in the face of Republisadists. Now stick with me, my commie pinko sistah!

The most famous Jew said we'd always have poor people.

"For you always have the poor with you, and whenever you wish you can do good to them; but you do not always have Me."

I don't know how anybody who knows even a minimum of Obama's platform can even think of hiw as a marxist.

I sure would LOVE to see a marxist be in the run for Presidency, but Obama ain't the guy. He's as marxist as Clinton is feminist.

He was totally a Marxist! Before there was Marx.

That insane part about it being inherently evil to have SO much among people with SO little. Yeah...that.

But now we have "prosperity Christianity" - proof that basically religion unless it's totally left feral in the woods becomes a tool of ideology.

It cracks me up whenever I hear either Obama or Clinton called socialists...

Granted, I like Obama, I just wish he was closer to being a real socialist.

It's not a long boat ride to Cuba. You'd be happy there.

Delta is ready when you are.

I find it hard to understand how quickly people on the right equate criticism with a lack of patriotism. If this way of thinking had prevailed a number of years ago we'd all be singing "God Save the Queen" before the Red Sox and the Yankees played their annual cricket match.

Just saying that most on the left idolize Europe. If you want it so bad you can marry the Dane with the cane.

I think Europeans should provide for our health care since we provide for their defense. Our military presence in Europe is nothing more than Global welfare.

I don't care for Europe. I do resent being broke the rest of my adult life because I have a bowel disease I didn't do anything to incur, where in a civilized world I would not be. It would be a given that keeping me healthy enough to remain someone who can contribute has an UPSIDE. A tangible as well as intangible upside.

I have no fancy car, house, or vacations or bad choices in my past, other than maybe an education I had just paid off.

If I wanted to move I would.

I want a higher base line read of "human dignity and baseline needs" in the place I live. Now. Our sense of justice, investment, and sense of being in a society together has slid to sticking a bumper sticker on a car and letting soldiers rot in the VA system. Pissing and moaning about transportation taxes till bridges fall into rivers, then holding our heads and going "why God, WHY?"

I hope your health is good.
