What does anyone make of this?

Apparently Janet Jackson is trying to stake out BDSM as her new Pop feifdom just as Madonna and Britny Spears laid claim to the more generalized realm of vanilla or undifferentiated kink sexiness.

Smart career move or just bizarre oral birdcage/costume malfunction? Does BDSM need rock Divas and how does she sing in that thing?

I don't think it's a bad idea, to be honest. So many people are freaked out by the whole idea, that if they see such an icon as Janet pushing it mainstream, it could be good for BDSM and its followers.

Also on the plus side, Janet seems like a very genuine, sweet person. She doesn't seem like the type to make snap judgments and decisions all for the sake of album sales or popularity.

Odd career move I think. Really, it seems more of an attempt to gather up press for her latest album. From what I understand, her career has been on the downslope ever since the infamous wardrobe malfunction. Somehow, though, I just don't see it working for her.

Nah, there's no downslope for the truly loyal fans out there, of which I'm sure there are millions. I don't think she really "needs" career moves like that. She's Janet. She's a huge pop icon. Years after she's dead and gone, there will still be worshipers at her feet.

However, career move or not, like I said before, I think it's great. Maybe now there won't be as many people labeling BDSMers as freaks.

I don't mind poseurs-- really. Madonna made a little splash, and perhaps she poked a button or two in the process-- and perhaps, a few heretofore innocents learned something about themselves...

Madonna went on to some other concept. So will Janet. :)

I can think of better equipment, a better model, and better combinations.

The photographer and or art director needs to be flogged.

Janet; long thick hair
cenobite; none.

Janet; smooth, caressable skin
Cenobite; none.

Janet; lusterous bedroom eyes
cenobite; none.

Janet; lush, kissable lips
cenobite; none.

Janet; thousands of dollars worth of makeup services
cenobite; low budget foam FX.

naw, I don't really see the resemblance.

(edited to add;

Janet; self-directed, reasonably talented, confident, aggressive, explorative
cenobite; none.... ;)

But the Cenobites weren't poseurs! They lived that shit! (or should that be "nonliving?")

Now, I love me some Janet — in her older albums when she was more relaxed, to be more specific — but you can just hear the turning of the photo binder featuring all the "looks" she had to choose from and the klonk of her finger slamming down on the psuedo-bondage page. "This one! I haven't tried this yet!"

Oooh, one more difference there!

Janet; can take the clothes off any time she wants
Cenobite; gets tossed onto the props shelf at the end of the shoot. :p

But like I said, I don't really mind poseurs-- did you ever see Prince's vid "Violet The Organ Grinder"?

I misread the title as Jenny Jackson and was totally confused.

Even more so than normal.

Carry on. I have no opinion of Janet Jackson what so ever.

So what are you supposed to do with that thing? Crack walnuts?

Actually, with all the subtextual BDSM that's already scrabbling at the zipper of heavy metal, I'm suprised someone else hasn't raced for the hi-tech, grunge-free edge of pop S&M as it is. The market's just waiting for a germicidal D/s it can take to its heart.
