Your freedoms removed.. Let's look at what President Bush has signed into law.

"Executive Departments and Agencies" means the executive departments enumerated in 5 U.S.C. 101, independent establishments as defined by 5 U.S.C. 104(1), Government corporations as defined by 5 U.S.C. 103(1)". There is a distinct difference between Section 5 of the U.S. Code and what the Constitution, defines as 'our government'.

If you think it is only the War on Terror that has caused our country to lose so many liberties and freedoms, think again.

The War on Drugs is another culprit in that regards. According to the Violent Crime Control Act of 1991 the President has the power to suspend the Constitution and all rights guaranteed under it, to establish detention camps, seize your property and control populated areas in the event of a so called 'drug crisis'.

These are the tools that have built the coffin in which lay our rights, our freedoms and our liberties as we have known them for almost 200 years under the Constitutional form of government that far too many people still believe we have. All that is left is to have the nails driven into the coffin to convert America into a police state just like Nazi Germany and Soviet Russia.

Those nails are already there, just waiting to be used, in the form of numerous Executive Orders enacted by President Bush. Here are just a few of them, with a brief synopsis of their meaning for the people of this country.

EXECUTIVE ORDER 10990 allows the government to take over all modes of transportation and control of highways and seaports.

EXECUTIVE ORDER 10995 allows the government to seize and control the communication media.

EXECUTIVE ORDER 10997 allows the government to take over all electrical power, gas, petroleum, fuels and minerals.

EXECUTIVE ORDER 10998 allows the government to take over all food resources and farms.

EXECUTIVE ORDER 11000 allows the government to mobilize civilians into work brigades under government supervision.

EXECUTIVE ORDER 11001 allows the government to take over all health, education and welfare functions.

EXECUTIVE ORDER 11002 designates the Postmaster General to operate a national registration of all persons.

EXECUTIVE ORDER 11003 allows the government to take over all airports and aircraft, including commercial aircraft.

EXECUTIVE ORDER 11004 allows the Housing and Finance Authority to relocate communities, build new housing with public funds, designate areas to be abandoned, and establish new locations for populations.

EXECUTIVE ORDER 11051 specifies the responsibility of the Office of Emergency Planning and gives authorization to put all Executive Orders into effect in times of increased international tensions and economic or financial crisis.

EXECUTIVE ORDER 11921 allows the Federal Emergency Preparedness Agency to develop plans to establish control over the mechanisms of production and distribution, of energy sources, wages, salaries, credit and the flow of money in U.S. financial institution in any undefined national emergency. It also provides that when a state of emergency is declared by the President, Congress cannot review the action for six months.

EXECUTIVE ORDER 12148 created the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) that is to interface with the Department of Defense for civil defense planning and funding. An "emergency czar" was appointed. FEMA has only spent about 6 percent of its budget on national emergencies, the bulk of their funding has been used for the construction of secret underground facilities to assure continuity of government in case of a major emergency, foreign or domestic.

EXECUTIVE ORDER 12656 appointed the National Security Council as the principal body that should consider emergency powers. This allows the government to increase domestic intelligence and surveillance of U.S. citizens and would restrict the freedom of movement within the United States and granted the government the r ight to isolate large groups of civilians. The National Guard could be federalized to seal all borders and take control of U.S. air space and all ports of entry. Many of the figures in the Iran-Contra scandal were part of this emergency contingent, including Marine Colonel Oliver North.

This is a lot of information to take in and the implications of it is something that needs to be pondered by all Americans who value their freedom. Has our government overstepped it's authority? If you ask me it has gone totally off the deep end in regards to what powers it has granted unto itself. It can best be summed up by something stated by activist Howard J. Ruff, "Since the enactment of Executive Order 11490, the only thing standing between us and dictatorship is the good character of the President, and the lack of a crisis severe enough that the public would stand still for it."

One more terrorist attack, one outbreak of disease, one more major natural disaster is all tha t stan ds between our freedom and a dictatorship in which the President could suspend all Constitutional liberties and impose martial law. Is it not time to recall the words of Ben Franklin when he said, "They that can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety."

The choice is yours, the time is near at hand that we all must make a decision about how we wish to live, as freemen, or as slaves. I can only echo the words of Patrick Henry, "Give me liberty or give me death."

Its a travesty- a true travesty whats going on and what we have ALLOWED to happen. All in the name of fear and hate and anger and bruised egos....
personally I think they all (candidates) suck - but thats my opinion

I don't know. I went to your source document and then did a Google search on his EXECUTIVE ORDER 10990 which he says is about the President seizing all means of transportation, and what EXECUTIVE ORDER 10990 actually is, is:

"RE-ESTABLISHING THE FEDERAL SAFETY COUNCIL"

a mandate to form a committee to improve employee safety. It doesn't say anything about taking over the transportation system.

Similarly, EXECUTIVE ORDER 10995 says nothing about seizing control of communications. Rather, the name of the order is, ASSIGNING TELECOMMUNICATIONS MANAGEMENT FUNCTIONS and has to do with assigning a Director of Communications to head the FCC, It was signed by President John F Kennedy in 1962, Here's a link: http://www.fas.org/irp/offdocs/eo/eo-10995.htm

I think this guy's just a right-wing paranoid. I assume his other ravings are similar.

Hmmm--- didnt think to look that far into it - living and working for the fed at a time not tooo very long ago - most if not all of this stuff is in place - I was very small part of the planning commission in case DC got blew up -
None too few were mad as hell about the liberties the Gov. is taking and doing in the name of security and anti terrorism - but as a working employee of said gov werent willing to risk their livelihood to drag it out to the public.

Fact okay we can look at facts -

But over all is the feeling that this ship (US) has a mortal blow in its hull and we are just too fucking blind and lazy to either start repairing it or jump ship- I am truly frightened of my governments ability to decide that I am a danger to society or security or what ever because it says so - becuase I do complain about our governments scare tactics on the world and on us as citizens -

And YES I VOTE - so I have a RIGHT to Complain.

its just an interesting post I ran across - and in its way confirms what I know to be true
this is not our parents America its not our grand parents -
we are fucking ourselves and letting ourselves be fucked...

Stay out of my home, my car, my body.
Do not strip me of the right defend myself nor my own
Do not force me to pay taxes for things I do not condone nor support and then throw me in jail becuase I rightfully protest....

Anyway - too much too little and probably too damned late -

There's no doubt we're nowhere near being the "land of the free" we like to brag that we are. In fact, in terms of personal freedom, I just heard the results of a study that rated America as something like 35th in the world behind such countries as Greece, Mexico, and all of South America based on such things as how much government surveillance its citizens are under and proportion of its citizenry in jail (which is number one in the world, I believe). The biggest usurpation of our freedoms has come, of course, in defense of these very "freedoms" in the ridiculously bogus "War on Terror" (Did you know that four times as many Americans have been killed by lightning as have been killed by terrorism since 2001? Just who are we fighting here?)

In other words, in the thinking of Bush and Cheney and company, they've had to take our freedoms away in order to save them for us.

Bush may be a dick, but that article is clearly trolling.

I'm pretty certain most democracies assign the same or similar rights to Presidential of Governmental decree in the event of 'state of emergency'.

I have no problem with that, as long as I have faith in Democracy.

I don't think we have 'democracy' in any meaningful sense. Sure we have the right to elect politicians/leaders, but in the UK we are currently led by Gordon Brown when the majority voted for Tony Blair. Yes, it is the same political party, but it makes a mockery of the electoral process.

In the US, I think you elect a business rather than a parliament/government. Where 'individuals' are mentioned in politics, they are in the context of minority groups, some favoured, some opposed - Mexicans, abortion, immigrants, Blacks, Hispanics, Muslims, green cards, military... etc. Now it is right that 'issues' feature in politics. It is not right that 'issues' circumvent the requirements of the populous as a whole. Society is composed of individuals, the politician's duty is to recognise the rights and needs of individuals, regardless of class, race, religion, or belief before everything else. The current political climate in the USA and much of Europe used to be called Fascism.
