No, chicken and egg. If your story is being given a green E, it's listed at the top of the day's "New" list. My impression is that what are considered the more worthy stories of the day are shoved up near the top too, but the only certainity is that if it's being given an E, it sits on top of the daily list.

Not that I pay much attention to the New List, but I have seen "E" stories in midpack before. I really doubt if Laurel spends time sorting stories according to worth. I've had stories come out all over the place, and I certainly wouldn't classify anything that I have written as "worthy".

As I've said before, I personally think the day of the week a story comes out is more important than its position on the New List. In my experience, Friday is the best day, and Sunday the worst.

My own observance is fairly similar. The day of the week has a far larger impact on views than position in the list. A story in the #1 position coming out on Sunday will still get less views than one in #20 on Friday ( although Monday seems pretty good too )

I've never seen an E midpack, though. Only late at night when only a portion of the new stories for the next day have posted, moving yesterday's E down only partway through the page.

These observations had nothing to do with actual views--just where Laurel (or whoever) puts them on the list. I've kept a pretty sharp eye out for E stories for over a year and a half, and they've always been at the top of the daily list. But I'll keep looking to see if the pattern changes.

Well, I'll defer to you then, as I haven't kept an eye out for anything. I very rarely look at the New List.

ETA: I just checked the New List, and the only E there would have been at the top of the list the day it came out.

Thanks. I thought it rather strange that you questioned the point, since, as you say, you pay no attention to Es. As I've submitted a story nearly every other day for a year and a half and have six Es--and would be quite happy to have more--I'm quite confident about what the pattern has been on where they get listed.

And, latching on to something noted up the thread (and because this is "Scouries's World" and Scouries made a big to do over BFW's four story placements high on the list yesterday), I also find it an interesting observation that I've never seen a Scouries story listed near the top of the daily "New" list. So, if being up there means something, as Scouries indicated it did by congratulating BFW on having four up there yesterday, that must mean . . .

I think Scouries had one near the top around the time of the V'Day contest, but I'm not 100% sure, and I'm certainly not going to dig through this thread to find out.

Doesn't really count. All the contest stories post at the top on the day they come out *laugh*

I am you

Actually that's not totally true. I've had contest stories that posted at the top for two consequetive days while other contest stories posting after mine posted below them. I've had that happen to other stories of mine, as well.

Someone likes me.

sr71plt, you are rigt. I am you and Scouries and Daniellekitten. I'm everyone who posts here.

Again, I don't pay any attention to the New Lists, and I don't enter the contests. But, it does make sense, I think Laurel probably approves all of the contest stories last, making them first on the list.

Oh, right. I've seen that too. And maybe that's in play now--the survivor's contest(?)

Those don't have special submission criteria, though. ( the tagline in the notes section ) They don't get faster posting ( except maybe at the tail end, if I remember the rules right )

Never looked close enough to see if surivor participants get a bump in the listings... Haven't really seen any evidence from the position of BFWs listings ( the caps stand out a bit as you're scrolling )

No there's no preference for Survivor entrants. They take their chances the same as everyone else, except at the end. Towards the end of the contest (ie December) if you add "Survivor entry" in the notes field it will give them a bit of a boost up the queue.
I'm in Survivor and my last two stories - one appeared near the top of the new list (made no diffenece, it's still only got 600 odd reads) the other near the bottom of the first page. Don't think it makes any difference where they appear on the list, people read what people read.

Can't tell me there's no magic involved in the top of the list--all I had to do was talk about it on this thread and one of my stories is at the top of the list for (what is now) today--at least at the moment. Every likelihood, of course, that it will be shoved down the list if they are still adding to it. :D

Much truth there. I think that a position in the top 10 amongst similar categories can have some influence, but beyond that I think people are scrolling for categories that they like and titles/taglines that catch their eye.

The fans of Incest/Taboo certainly don't have any trouble finding those, and they never appear in the first half of the page for the most part.

It may not move down. I thought that with the first few chapters of SOTM, but they always seemed to stay up there after the rest of the day's stories posted.

Actually, I didn't really name my dog after Scouries, I only said that to piss off a poster who was giving Scouries some shit. My dog's name is Polo because everything I buy is by Ralph Lauren. Yeah, I coulda been gay (lol).

The Rat Terrier is a great dog. He's fearless and he was attacked by three Pit Bulls. He fended them off and even bit one in the ear. Fortunately, for him, these Pit Bulls were pets and not attack dogs, otherwise I'd be in the market for a new dog. I have the new breed of long legged Rat Terrier that has Italian Greyhound and can run like the wind.

Just as I don't understand why everyone is always on my case, I don't understand why everyone is on Scouries case. I guess two birds of a feather and it takes one to know one may apply here with me being friends with him. It doesn't matter. We're just cyberfriends anyone. None of this is real. It's all just computer bits.

Nonetheless, I appreciate the information that he imparts. He is certainly more helpful to this web site than not. When you think of it, what purpose do you all serve? You just bash him. Why not start up your own thread? Then, maybe, you'll appreciate the amount of work that it takes him to do what he does for the benefit of us all. I'm grateful.

Besides, I truly believe that he is a very good writer and besides that he has a great set of knockers (lol).

And as long as I'm here with some of you fools bashing him, I'll take whatever you have to give on the chin for him. That's what friends are for.

Okay, now this is the part where you all hold hands and start singing, "My Buddy! My Buddy!"

I'm happy for the puppy. ;)

Near as I can figure, the only reason everyone is always on you case is because of the way you go on the attack whenever something the least bit critical is said. I've noticed that their responses to you have become increasingly hostile over time, but I suppose that's to be expected. Perhaps a more diplomatic approach is more conducive to your need to defend yourself.

Or you could just ignore them. Do their words really matter?

he's not called scouries????

Freddie, please, say it isn’t so. Here I’ve been having visions of my namesake running around Harvard Common chasing sexy, intelligent coeds. Jumping up onto 18 yo perfect thighs and humping wildly as his long pink tongue licks upwards under short plaid skirts.

And now you tell me the poor animal is named after some dead, gay, clothes designing Frenchman! C’mon man… Give the dog a break…

p.s. miss australia – excellent avatar! yours?

Scouries, could you help me out? I'm new here so I don't know much yet, but there seems to be some debate. Are you male or female?

alive and well

Actually, Scouries, Ralph Lauren is alive and well and living in Massachusetts. I went to see his exhibition of automobiles two years ago at the Museum of Arts.

Sorry about the dog not being named after you, but he already had a name. I promise to name my next pet proudly after you.
