So you think Bikers are the scum of the Earth and the members of the various Motorcycle Clubs are the worst of the worst/

Recently here in Palm Beach County we had a young woman claim she was abducted from her School Bus Stop and sexually assaulted while being driven around the town. She was then dropped on a corner and left there.

The uproar in the city this happened in was loud and is still ongoing. A Motorcycle Club stepped up to the plate and will now be patrolling the Bus Stops. These Bikers will be out there on their own time watching over the kids as they head to school in the dark.

Oh and it turns out the young woman was not abducted. She made up the entire story so she could be with her boyfriend. (She has admitted to this.)

Some bikers give bikers a bad name.

Scooters are another matter entirely.

I've known more crooked, bullying, or downright evil people who dressed in office suits, than I have known bad bikers.

I've known more trouble come from teen girls wanting to sneak off to be with their boyfriends than ever was caused by bikers.

Generally bikers have the political complexion of Klansmen.

Theres a Group of Bikers here that rally for abused children and have actually taken abused womena nd their children to safe havens ....
Personally I dont ahve a porblem wioth them - unless they try to ummm err--- kiss me with out having brushed their teeth in twelve years - then I had them some gum and a bottle of beer and say not thanks chum- but have a good one :)
I still have quite a few friends out at frisco choppers and mars custom cycle if San Francisco.... Love those Guys to Death!

But with everything that bucks the "rules" and the uniform of society - they tend to be looked on with fear that turns to hatred - unreasonable true - but the par for the course eh?

and god damn it... some one should take that girl aside and bitch slap her for doing that!

She is facing charges.

Most of the bikers I know are pretty good people. I think people tend to get bikers and the Hell's Angels-style biker gangs confused. Are those things even still around?

I love bikers. I've met a few and they've always been some of the nicest souls I've met.

Not a fan of the crotchet riders.

I just don't get it - why can we never seem to get away from stereotypes and just start accepting people for who they are? I've known some wonderful bikers - and actually have never met a disrespectful one (or one that doesn't brush his teeth). And I've known some people that don't deserve to walk the ground a biker has ridden on, but who am I to judge? For that matter, my own grandfather bragged to his last day at 96 about never having owned a toothbrush, but he was a sweet man and I loved him dearly!

I have four older brothers. One is an attorney and the other three are free-wheeling bikers. Guess which ones I get along with?

Round California and Oregon there's a common type of biker -- my brother is one -- they're in their 50's or even 60's, freedom-loving semi-retired professional types who remember the 1960's. I have a lot of time for those guys. Maybe they're generally a little more Conservative than me, but decent enough live-and-let-live people.

But there's also a distinct type you meet, who, after a few beers, will come out with all kinds of racist crap, or antisemitic bullshit (they don't know they're talking with a heavy-drinking jew!) -- it usually starts out as a bitch about New York and cities in general.

And there's a fine line between nationalism and jingoism, and between jingoism and xenophobia.

How many non-white bikers do you know?

Poland and Scandinavia are full of white bikers. In Poland's case... a nation subjected to extreme repression, they simply don't allow non-white people. It's not a policy, but they find it very difficult to find employment or accommodation. Scandinavia... don't know... other than you don't see many non-white people other than Vietnamese.

Here in Los Angeles, the joke when you see a group of hogs roaring down the road; "Here come the business managers!"

Come to think of it, I know one biker who is a lawyer, too.

During my stint in Japan, I did a shoot with a Nipponese biker gang. Their colors were just beautiful-- Sumi-painted, a bat against the moon. They told me the slogan read; "Office mouse by day, flying mouse by night."

Around here, there are Rubs(Rich Urban Bikers) and Scooter Tramps (old school).

It ain't hard to tell the difference between the two.

CD:)

Around here it is, because the RUBs have a lot of film propmakers around, and they like to look authentic. Cracks me up, every time.

It's painfully obvious that many of you don't know bikers or what they're about. Some do, but I'm not going to point out what shoe fits where.

There are motorcyclists, There are avid riders, there are some absolute "gotta ride three thousand miles this month or I will shrivel up and die!" die hard riders, and then there are "bikers."

There are Bikers who live the lifestyle 24/7 of working hard and partying harder, getting there tired, sunburned, and dehydrated or wet, cold and miserable, depending on the weather, and going to whatever lengths they need to to assist, defend, or just party with their brothers. Nothing means more to them. For whatever reason, they trust only those that share the patch on their back, shunning the rest of society for the most part, or at least keeping it at arm's length. Their family is their Brotherhood. Everyone else is met with respect, but indifference, until they earn the right to be treated otherwise. Everything in their lives is about the Club.

There are Bikers a little farther from the center, who still belong to a motorcycle Club (Designated as an MC, not a riding club or association). They are involved on a daily basis with their Club, but keep part of their lives rooted in their family and work outside the club. They have 'tangibles' and these things will take precedence over the club activities, but they are still part of a closely knit brotherhood that stands ready to pitch in to help a member in need.

In both the previous examples, there is no automatic membership. True MCs expect members to "earn" (not 'buy') their way in through a probationary process. Regardless of the name of the Club, members from different MCs respect each other as having earned the colors they wear. There may be some friction between clubs, but even as adversaries, there is respect.

Then there are those a bit farther out there, who belong to say, a riding club, or the Patriot Guard riders, or some other loose association. However hardcore a rider they may be, their life isn't about their club or their brothers. Some ride year round in all kinds of weather, some ride only during daylight hours under clear skies on days that begin with an S. Take these people for what they are...members of society that happen to ride motorcycles and enjoy it. Some are real nice folks, some are pricks, just like the rest of the world. Some will ride the rubber right off a brand new set of tires every six months, others will sell their bikes after three years with less than 5K miles on them. Some will ride in 100 degree heat and 20 degree temps, rain, whatever.

Then there's the posers, who have a bike, grow their hair, and want to look the part, but never develop the intangible qualities inherent to a true biker...integrity, respect, and a "live and let live" attitude. These guys like to look scary and throw their weight around and live up to their perceived notion of the biker stereotype...but they are not bikers. Most of these guys are cowards that tend to cause the problems that bring heat on the rest of the MC community. My personal experience is they crumple like tissue paper when confronted.

As with any group of society, there is a percentage that are criminals of various types. I know of a member of a local MC that was arrested for having .47 ounces of weed (first offense, 45 years old, by the way). Headline on page three was "Biker arrested on drug charges." On that same day, in the same city, a manager of a local Big Box type electronics store was busted stealing a pickup truck full of plasma tvs and computers, and had an ounce of coke on him. He didn't even make the papers. When that same biker was acquitted due to unlawful search/seizure people were up in arms...but the half-dozen or so other cases dismissed that day were not even mentioned in the paper. Personally I got the better end of a bar fight one night, only to end up in a squad car. It wasn't until the video tapes that showed that I was the one yanked off my barstool and assaulted first were shown that the case was dismissed- but the punk college kids that attacked me weren't prosecuted. What do you want to bet that if I hadn't been wearing colors, the kids would have been the ones charged, instead of the retired soldier with the black jacket, MC patch, and the flattop?

What I don't get, is the amazement people have when they observe that there are bikers that are gainfully employed without a criminal record, that are college educated, make six figures, or work in a garage or as a welder, have kids, or have no kids, are divorced or married for thirty years, or are lawyers or managers or bartenders... we are part of society, just like you. We have to earn a living just like everyone else- and some of us are quite good at what we do. (Funny thing is, I don't know any bikers drawing welfare.)

We're Society, just like you.

We're Society, just like you.

Indeed. :)

We ride, my husband and I. He works more than full-time, I raised (and am still raising) kids.

He has long hair, a beard and a mustache, always has had them, even in our bike-less times. My hair's still longer than his and I have the tattoos, not him.
