Long enough title. Jebus, what it takes to try to be witty. I failed, didn't I? No one got the reference, did they?

Frankly, I'm here to have my own chat thread. Feel free to ask questions about my photography, my modelling (as I'm my own model), and my rope-work. Feel free to ask about makeup, about lighting (though I don't profess to be any whiz at any of this), whatever.

Feel free to talk about anything you like.

This is my pic thread:

I suppose I should introduce myself a bit.

I've been around since 2002, in one guise or another. I've had various names, though have most often been very blunt about who I am. The name is simply a current avatar of myself, rather than a new identity completely.

I'm 26, engaged to the most wonderful man, with whom I've been an item for 6.5 years, and a self professed nut-job.

I tend to think I'm intelligent, but I have more blonde moments than a California Hooter's staff, put together. I enjoy art, music, opera, literature, movies, sports, and cooking. I'm obsessive compulsive, a narcissist, and have the mouth of a sailor... - in profanity terms, anyway.

Who are you? Tell me about yourself.

Hi Jade, I'm Baby .... lovely to meet you :rose:

As a fellow photography enthusiast (though I'm a clumsy amateur at it!), I'm always interested in how others light their pictures. I normally rely on natural light because I just haven't worked out quite how to do it with artificial and the professional lights are so expensive.

I'd be interested to know whether you use artificial light sources and how you go about it.

Good luck with the thread, I'm sure it's going to be popular :)

I'm also an amateur, but I've been doing it for years.

Natural light is going to be the best light for your skin. It naturally hides blemishes (which I have in spades, sometimes), and it plays up rich colours, like blues and greens, for eyes.

Artificial light is tough. If it's incandescent light (regular light bulbs), it'll give a yellowish tinge to skin tone. If you use fluorescent light, it's just plain evil. It washes you out, especially hair colour.

When I HAVE to use artificial light, especially for black and white photographs, I shoot IN THE DARK. The flash is the only illumination I use, often times, especially for close-up shots. Other times, for farther-away shots, I must use something else, but I try to make those bulbs as bright as possible, and shine RIGHT at me- as it also hides blemishes.

But that's just me.

I so agree with you on fluorescent light ... it is the work of the devil :D

Thank you, for the tip on shooting in the dark with only the flash for close ups. I'll give that a try. I always find B&W's so much more dramatic to look at but have never really managed to get that real stark contrast that I've seen on others pictures. Maybe just using the flash will get me there!

*nod* It works, trust me

And you're very welcome. :)

Some people achieve stark contrast through photo manipulation. I know that if I do webcam shots, rather than digicam shots, I will up the contrast, to make them more striking... but it's rare that I do webcam shots anymore.

I may have to do a set sometime soon, though- I really enjoy playing with the colour filters, etc.

I'm hyperflexible. I bend in ways I shouldn't be able to... so often once I'm tied, I can hold my camera and snap. Rarely do I use a timer- I don't like how those photos end up looking (often blurry).

No time for pro modelling, and I haven't had an interested party in years.
