Does anyone have one of those days where no matter how many words you write, they NEVER come out the way they sound in your head? I'm about up to here with one of my characters and two seconds from deleting a months worth of work simply cause I can't seem to get the damn thing the way I want it. I really could use some words of encouragement right about now. Hell i'd take a few quit your bitching if i just had someone who knew what the hell I was talking about. People who don't write, don't quite understand what the hell I"m talking about. "Oh you can't get the words right? Well have you tried using a dictionary." God I just want to scream, "you don't Fing understand."

Ok i think i've vented enough. Please someone just let me know I'm not the only one that gets this into their writing.

Oh, we've all been there. Take a deep breath, walk away for a bit, have some chocolate and try again. You can do it.

A welcome  for the little newbie from the good little witch.

Yes, we've all been there. At least I'm assuming that from what I have read in the past. I know I have. What I do is to start over, but set the crap aside. You might be able to use it later, after some editing.

Definitely been there.

I usually get totally frustrated with it, rant and rave, throw things, then SAVE and close the file and go and do something else.

Quite often my brain will happily play with it while I'm concentrating on something else and come up with the EXACT way to do it while I'm in the middle of peeling the spuds or something.

So I bolt over to the keyboard, dripping mud and potato starch all over the keys and frantically write it down before I forget again, then return to the spuds and come back later to delete the crap, reword the semi crap and slot the just added gemstones into the proper place.

Good luck. Don't push it. It will come (probably when you're standing in line at the bank ;))

Sometimes it's better to get out the Olde Pencil and Paper.

You can draw lines and stuff too.

Seriously, getting your thoughts down on paper, making a plan, sorting the words out, and above all, using a different medium is helpful.
You can always screw it up and throw it in the bin.:D

Hey, I live in that place. :rose:

Don't delete anything, in case it's just temporary insanity. Hang onto it, you might be able to salvage something out of it later. It'll get better, remember, you're in charge. ;)

One form of Block is when everything you write looks like the rankest of crap. The advice here is sound. Write something utterly different. A sonnet or a sestina.

Wait! Wait! There's some OTHER way to be?!?

I thought the natural state for all of us included three things:

1. Not enough time.
2. Why the fuck doesn't this sound the way it does in my head?
3. Shut the fuck up, you pissant wanna-be-writer who can't do better than slam someone else's work... go fuck yourself!

Shit....Now I am seeing "S" words in the AH! :p

Most horrible form of torture....

Oh you are absolutely not alone. This happens to me and every writer I know, including those here on Lit. Even authors of best-sellers have this problem.

What works for me is to just set it aside for awhile. An hour, a day. Sometimes a week. I go work on something else or many something elses, and somewhere in my unconscious the problems get chewed on until the light finally goes on over my head and I say, "Eureka!" ;) When I've got a problem like this the best thing for me is to not even think about it.

Whatever you do, don't force it. If it takes another month to finish it then it takes another month to finish it. If you force it, you'll just end up with crap that you'll toss anyway. So unless you're under a deadline, just put it aside and come back later after fully focusing on other things.

And welcome to the AH! :D

.:D

But when you are at your computer, you can play solitaire and come here and grouse about it.
By the way, Kitten 20057 isn't exactly a newbie. She joined Lit in 2002, although she is new on AH.

Yeah i admit it, I'm a lurker. I have just recently joined the world of the living. I guess I got tired of the cramped closet that is my world. Guess my mother was wrong and there is hope for me yet. Will wonders never cease? ;)

Its fun out here. Or at least more fun than a closet. Tons of people here have come out of their closets. ;)
