This video pissed me off

Something seemed off about that video. I don't think the puppy would have been yipping like that for one thing.

It's definitely messed up. If it's real, of course, it's even sicker.

I just wouldn't get yourself too much in a tizzy over it, since there's so much fakery on the net.

If you notice the puppy never moves. I don't think that would have killed it and it would have ran once he hit the ground.

Puppies freeze up when you lift them by the skin on the back of their neck. So do kittens.

I know they freeze up but there would be some movement. Looked dead to me.

The puppy WOULD yip like that.

My puppies yip in fear... fireworks and stuff creep them out, and they yip like that and scamper under the couch to hide.

When it's being flung through the air like that? I can't imagine it would have been able to breathe, nevermind yip a dozen times as it flew through the air.

I can tell you from experience. . .when a puppy is scared they are either REALLY quiet or REALLY loud.

I know I'd scream if someone tossed me off of a cliff. . .an animal is no different. . .

Hah!

Y'all would laugh if that was a Monty Python skit and they were throwing a cat off the cliff...

Pffft!

I won't even begin to go into the poor sound editing and bait-and-switch of the pup for a stuffed one...

Nope.. I dont laugh at skits of even fake animal abuse. Even for Monty Python

Yes, its disgusting. But, understand, that you are seeing the result of kids straight out of high school being put into a combat environment. I cant imagine having to adjust to that much life and death stress, the life of a puppy probably didnt seem very important. The kind of behavior has been seen in war after war.

Does it excuse it, no.

Seriously, what kind of asshole does shit like this? To make it even worse it's a U.S. soldier.

That was probably some little girls puppy.

Honestly, afraid of what I was going to see, I chose not to watch the video. So I can't comment on its validity other than today's news reports about the investigation. And like Empress Fi, even fake animal abuse in the name of comedy is not my cup of tea.

However I also feel compelled to comment on Mr Holderman's statement. Although I try very hard (as in sometimes I have to sit on my hands and grit my teeth) to stay out of any conversation that seems remotely political, I find myself required by conscience to comment.

18 year olds (and many younger) have been going to war forever. And that does not explain behavior such as this. I am and always have been against the draft, but find myself more strongly in support of mandatory public service.
My personal opinion is that because of the lack of a draft (or alternative public service option,) the ratio of troubled men and women enlisting is much higher than when we had mandatory military service. The fact that the internet and advances in reporting makes videos like this one available to everyone instantly doesn't negate the fact that things like this have happened before. We just didn't see it. And there were a far greater number of soldiers who were not exhibiting bad behavior.

And of course, there was far more support throughout the US for our engagements in pre-Viet Nam wars. I think its way too easy for the media to highlight situations like this video when they know they can get a reaction from their viewers/readers, especially those who oppose our involvement. While I'm not in support of our participation in the Middle East, I'd like to think that there are still a few good men and women serving there. And if this video is indeed true, that this soldier will be dealt with appropriately.

But it has nothing to do with being 18.

In fact, a non-troubled, 18n year old soldier might be more inclined to care deeply for a found puppy, in order to deal with the stress of war. Because you usually don't have to be afraid of a puppy.

Hopping off my high horse now....

You guys need to get your priorities straight.

Theirs a guy, dressed up in gear specifically designed to kill people, trained to kill people, support my millions to go and kill people, in a place where the people to be killed are located.

And you guys are worried about a damn puppy.

yeah..

well for one, just because he's a soldier, trained to kill people, blah blah blah, does not mean he gets a blanket excuse to no longer be human.

I've known many soldiers in his situation, if not more extreme, but they wouldnt use animal cruelty as an outlet.

Also, animal cruelty is one of the symptoms of being a psychopath and/or a sociopath. Animal cruelty, firestarting, and bedwetting. I have no way of knowing about the other two, but seeing that video does not make me secure in the knowledge that he's been trained to kill and has been given a weapon.
