the result is Romance and Cigarettes. A weird, gotta be in the mood, musical with an all star cast. Hey, any movie Christopher Walken is in you count me as a fan! Just so you know, Susan Sarandon, Kate Winslett, Steve Buscemi and Mandy Moore are in it. I love these people for this! And Tom Jones songs are still cool.

Alright, that's an eclectic enough mix to interest me...

The cinematography is well done. But the movie is art school oddball. If you like offbeat experiments, you'll like it, especially with the cast it has.

*perks*
What? What?? What's that?! *sniffs air*

Jo made a movie thread. (!) That means my fingers are genetically predisposed to crash here for a few minutes.

I've always wanted to see it, but could never find someone to watch it with me. And then when I tried to do it alone I couldn't find the movie anymore. Figures.

You forgot to mention Amy Sedaris, Mandy Moore, and Elaine Stritch before. Honestly, Jo.
Some of us live for the weird ones.

Incidentally, I have tentative plans to see The Savages this weekend. A theater in the area finally got it. Took long enough.
I have a desperate desire to see Laura Linney get mad at a nurse about who took her father's big red pillow.

I love Laura Linney!

I'll watch it with you. But I have to warn you. It's almost as vulgar as my White Trash series.

Bluie, Bluie, Bluie, you read too fast. Of course I mentioned Mandy. But you're right, I should have mentioned Amy and Elaine for the hardcore fans. ;) Oh, Aida Turturro is also in it, by the way.

Philip Seymour Hoffman's pretty awesome hisownself, too.

I just added it to my blockbuster queue. Thanks for the tip. I love these actors and actresses and to see them together will be a treat.

The Hollywood Video Store

Down the street is closing. Everything is for sale. DVDs are $3.00. What shall I buy?

I ain't picky, homeboy. Snuggle up, ya heah'?

No one writes trash like you, Jo.

Ack! My reading comprehension sucks today.
Mandy Moore is doing movies that aren't good enough for her. I think she's got Oscar gold in there somewhere.
(And before you snicker, I'm truly not kidding.)

I know. But sometimes he's too good. It gets annoying.
Like people who are sprightly at 7 am. Skooch over and stand in front of my toothbrush acting all sprightly, you bouncy bonk-head. Then we'll see how sprightly you are.

I'm stealing this for my sig line to promote my sorry entry in the crush 'em contest. Thanks! :D

A diamond in the rough. I snicker not.

Only after coffee. And never at 7am.

Never mind, I thought you were talking about the Coen Brothers.

Glad I could help by sullying your name in a complimentary way, my dear friend.

Good.
But if we were talking about Miley Cyrus it would be a totally different story.

I'm gonna pretend I know what this means. *smiles and nods*

It was produced by them, but written and directed by John Tuturro.
I have seen a lot of the Coen's, but not the one movie you speak of, so I really can't comment, Sorry - I would like to comment. I will if you bring up more of their films?

I want to see Blood Simple again. It's been forever since I've seen it.

And I might have missed Miller's Crossing.

I haven't seen Romance & Cigarettes, but to say that b/c it's artsy, it's David Lynchish sounds a little broad to me somehow. Lynch is a surrealist filmmaker. Is the film surrealistic?

Aww. I squish you back. :rose:

I'll take what I can get! :)

She is, like, sooooo awesome!!! Totally!!!

Oh, just that I'm not bright and bouncy at 7am.

Like a Lynch movie, it does have some elements that get you going WTF in the best of ways. Like Aida Tuturro playing Gandolfini's daughter (they're about the same age) and a few non-sequitur song and dance numbers. And then there's the potty mouthed Kate Winslet. But its' not Lynch surreal in the dreamlike nightmarish sense.

And another thing: A lot of it is about sex - a lot.

I enjoyed the first half immensely - then it got more serious and less upbeat. But you gotta love any flick that has Christopher Walken singing "Delilah"...

Indeed, that old hoofer! :D

Christopher Walken singing and dancing with John Travolta under the laundry hanging on the line in "Hairspray" was precious. I think I like "The Continental" on SNL best of all, though. I want to be the sweet buttercup who is refusing his advances...
