I just got a recorded phone alert from the school system advising me that, as a precaution, additional security (in the form of police officers) was being implemented in all schools today due to "a rumor."

A bit of Googling turned up this "229" stuff.

Anyone have more info?

I just dropped the middle child (Entropy) back at school following the county spelling bee. I saw no signs of heightened security. The doors were propped open, even.

Entropy choked in the first round of said bee on a very simple word, BTW. He wasn't visibly upset, laughing at himself and saying he performed a public service by putting all the other kids at ease -- because there was no way they could now humiliate themselves any more than he'd done.

But we knew from the start the enemy would eventually catch up to us. As for our comrades: We know you aren't duped by these tactics employed by the police state that seeks to criminalise the youth. We know that you don't fear for your lives on February 29th. We know that this is a rumour, but not a benign one. This rumour is cancerous and will lead to the furthering of police repression if not fought.

The Morning Call newspaper compared us to the Columbine shooters and said we were planning a 'Rebel Against Authority Day' with which we would 'attack the schools'. Not only is this slogan inarticulate and insultingly generic, it is completely FICTIONAL... Our statement on the accusations is that we would never lead an attack on a school or condone one. People looking for education need it and are prevented from it by the fascist ways of censorship and Columbus worship. We seek to challenge this through struggle and debate as well as eventual revolution by any means necessary. We had never heard of an attack on the schools and no one had heard about it. We know, besides some media uproar and sensationalism/nationalism that would only be available to the revolutionary media/state because of the rotting 9/11 hystericism that lingers as though a toxic cloud over critical discussion of our liberties and more importantly Non-U.S. citizens' very lives. We wouldn't take it any more importantly than the normal blog post. But what this is is a very serious old fascist trick against a very inexperienced young movement. With our conversations with reporters so far we have been told to give a 'handful of members' names to get our side of the story across'. Well No Dice.'

Manifesto presumably refers to the Communist Party Manifesto of 1848 written by Marx and Engels.

All political parties in the UK issue manifestos for each General Election. Very few people read them in full because they are full of politicians' "promises" that are unlikely to be met.

Things like this always take place, usually by people wanting to create drama or draw attention to themselves, to feel more visible, if nothing else. Hopefully it's all just Bullshit. The fact that things like this, and worse, take place so often is only one key sign that we need to regroup our cultural priorities. Our values have fallen to the wayside. I'm not pushing religion (if for no other reason than I myself am not even a believer) but we've left honesty and respect behind us somewhere along the way. We've got his idea in our heads that we can do what we want and when we want eventhough it's wrong, based simply on what we can get away with. That's what these guys are doing, pushing to see if they can get away with this, or doing it because they think they can.
