I am a new author and just got my first story approved. The question i have is does anyone have any balls when they want to make a discouraging or insulting comment? Everyone uses the anonymous tag to hide around. I didnt think i would find internet thugs on here as well, but oh well i have alot of stories yet to post and have had some supportive comments as well. I have never claimed to be an award winning writer so i knew my first time out was not going to be my best,im just curious if this is something to get used to. Either way if you dont like what i write and see my name as the author...DONT READ IT....sorry i just wanted to vent a little bit...lol

You have met the trolls who are the bane of every author's life here on Literotica.

It may seem like a personal attack but we all get it for a variety of reasons even just because they got out of bed on the wrong side this morning.

Welcome to the Author's Hangout. We know all about negative feedback - unfortunately.

Og

I don't personally claim to be a "very nice sunshine-y" person or anything.

People are going to read your shit whether you want them to or not. Quite frankly, I think when people bitch about the trolls, it only eggs them on. Who gives a shit what they think anyway? Why should you care? You like your story, so that's all that should count.

It's like getting a puppy and then entering it in dog shows. Would you love it less if it didn't win any awards or get the highest of high ratings? No one's perfect. Ignore the trolls.

Buena suerte.

Oh yes, especially here. You learn to live with it. If it isn't really about your story, just delete it. We have a thread around here specifically devoted to responding to "Anonymous." Try to let it go. :rose:

I always leave the trollish comments on my work. It gives others something to laugh at. I hate when they one bomb me and don't leave a reason. I'm getting a lot of that now since I came back but someday, someone else will come along and I won't have to deal with them anymore. You just have to out wait them. Good luck with your work!

Your both right, and i appreciate the feedback. I do standup as well and a couple of the clubs i do it at does not allow heckling(however i welcome it sometimes..lol) so maybe im spoiled. I figured some people would not like it and the actual public comments are not what i was talking about it was the messages i got. Someone actually wished death on me and my spouse..thats why i was ticked. Thanks for the welcome!

A welcome  for the little newbie from the good little witch.

You're allowing public feedback, so you have to take the good with the bad. It doesn't say "good public feedback only" right? As you read negative comments, instead of feeling hurt or angry, try thinking about them. Do they have any merit? Can you learn something from them? If so, try to do better next time. If not, fuggedaboudit. ;)

Must have written a Loving Wives story.

There ought to be some kind of pop-up warning that shows up whenever a new(er) author submits a story and chooses that category.

to the OP: the Loving Wives category is a no-win thing for everyone involved. Many readers seem to forget that the stories there are fiction, and get extremely upset, sometimes writing comments that are longer than the story itself.

They either get off on a husband sharing his wife ("the wimp husband" is what disparagers call it, I believe), or they want the cheating woman killed by her husband in the most gruesome manner possible (its my pet theory that these readers have been dumped rather hard at least once), and then there's always Don, who wants every female main character to get pregnant, and if she doesn't, he down-rates the story.

You can't win.

Write a nice Erotic Couplings story....or hell, even the readers of Erotic Horror are easier to please than those in Loving Wives.

Anonymous comments just mean you can't thank them for reading and commenting.

It not like you could go throw rocks at their windows.

Oh, please, yes! That's a brilliant idea. We'll have little pop-up pictures to go along with it. Something like:

And the message reads: "Are you out of your freakin' mind! You want to post in Loving Wives? Do you know what kind of people read this category?"

Something like that ;)

I'm going to stand up here for anonymous. Okay, most of the time it's nasty, stupid comments from assholes and trolls...those are "duh" and you just ignore them. But sometimes it's the other way around. I've left comments, serious, honestly critical comments on some stories with my name, and gotten defensive authors writing nasty things back to me: "You don't know shit about writing!"

Next thing I know they've one-bombed my stories and left troll-like, nasty comments on them

So. Sometimes, when I just want to say what I honestly think and not worry about getting into it with the author, I go anonymous. Of course, if I have a very serious critique, or if I know the author, I'll usually send it PM or e-mail if that's allowed. I don't think that long, important critiques should be left on the comment page.

Sticks and stones may break my bones but...

I'm probably the most bashed writer on here because I write so many stories, 300 in 13 months.

My advice is to ignore them. You have a delete option if their comment is personally offensive.

You have to feel sorry for these people. Most never have written a story. Most can't even write a grammatically correct bash.

I love the ones who write me telling me that I can't write and they can't even write one bashing sentence without making spelling errors. You need to develop a thick skin.

Haven't you ever been in a writer's workshop where they hang the writer out the window by his ankles because they didn't like his story?

If you're going to write, put your stuff out there (especially here), you need to don a bullet proof vest and a steel helmet while reciting the poem, "Stick and stones may break my bones, but names will never hurt me..."

I agree with this, although with the caveat that I don't agree that Lit is any worse than other story sites as far as abusive commenters go. I've had very few truly horrible comments, and those were actually funny (can't you picture some guy that lives in his mama's basement at the age of 51, drooling and spitting as he types out his venom? :D )

This one would also be good:

or this (minus the cheesy cartoon balloon):

but I think my choice would be the classic scared kitty:

Why the heck do you care if the trollish comment is submitted by "anonymous" or "steve1672"? What difference would it make? Assuming he hasn't turned off his own feedback all you could do is flame him back. Yeah, really mature.

Sure, but this is after he's already jerked off to whatever it is that he supposedly finds reprehensible. Yes? So is the hate really directed at the writer or at himself? Hmm...

Very true, however like i said the main reason i was sort of put off by the whole thing was not the public comments. It was the messages that were left by anonymous people but my eyes have sort of been opened now. I guess i will be getting it alot if i post stories under that topic.
