'Lo, friends. Coffee's rather tasty this morning. I feel fairly well rested or, at least, more so than I have in the past week.

The weekend ahead will be filled with preparations to travel to Portland (my first trip to the Pacific Northwest!) for EPICon. Hard to believe a year has passed since dear Vana spent 90 minutes in the wee hours of the Ugandan morning listening to last year's EPPIE Awards ceremony over my phone.

This year, I have a vintage gown to wear to the EPPIE Awards ceremony -- where Bel & I will be presenting the award for Best Paranormal Erotic Romance. Coming Together: For the Cure may win an EPPIE for Best Erotica. Phaze in Verse may win an EPPIE for Best Poetry. I'll collect two (maybe three) awards for my cover art. And, I'll sit alongside Ellora's Cave publisher and a couple others as we present a session on the importance of cover art.

Back to the gown: It's beaded, and I need to spend a few hours replacing beads in a few places. Tedious, but the end result will, I hope, be worth it. Then, I have to decide how to pack such a garment. I'm thinking I'll roll it in a thick beach towel. Any other ideas? (I don't own a garment bag -- and this gown doesn't do well on a hanger anyway. The beads make it too heavy.)

IMO...
using a towel is your best bet. anything else will put undo stress on the beading which seems to have had enough stress as it is.

i WILL get pictures, yes?

Rolling in cloth is the best way to pack beaded clothing, but I would not use a beach towel. The terry cloth material can catch on the beads, creating more work for you. Use 2 sheets. Fold them lengthwise, one on top of the dress, one underneath. then roll the dress and it should pack and travel nicely.

Have a great trip. Good luck.:kiss:

Ah, hadn't thought of that. Was more focused on the thickness of the towel as bulk/buffer. Will line towel with sheet before rolling. :)

Thank you!

Good Luck to you and Bel! Cant wait to see you post pictures of your awards!!!

The gown sounds beautiful- tip, use a long beading needle to add beads back on. When you string them on, add a few at a time leaving the thread just a little loose. Go back over string of beads and loop thread from inside over and in between the beads to secure them flat. This holds them in place much better with a bit less work than adding one at a time.

A vintage beaded hand bag would be beautiful, I saw two last Monday at an antique store close by, start doing arm curls to work up the muscles you plan to carry it in! lol (they were only $20ish)

Thanks, Cealy. I don't have THAT much restoration work to do ... but I'll keep your advice in mind.

That is one of the most beautiful memories I have. Thank you

My mood . . . It's been an exhausting and turmoilous two weeks. I finally feel safe. And it's a really good feeling.

I also got the business deal today that I have been struggling with. Now, at least, I know that I won't have to live on rich tea biscuits. ;)

And now starts my preparations for getting ready to go back to South Africa soon.

I'm sending love to all.
