New thread, no particular theme beyond it being for the guys and gals of the Geek Photo Threads, and anyone else that classes themselves a geek.
Yeah, I know that this is really sketch at the minute, but I want to leave it open for people to create their characters as characatures or alternate egos of themselves, with no real constraints.
I leave the idea on the table now. Please introduce characters in this thread.

I shall post mine as soon as I have the basic character sheet sorted.
They should follow along the lines of this:

General Information

Occupation:

History
[Here there should be a short passage describing where your char has come from, what’s happened to them to get them here and anything else that you think I’ve missed out]

First topic up for discussion is the basic plot of the story, or more so the setting, as I'm not a fan of setting out any sort of detailed plotline before doing anything (you can tell that if you read my stories).

So, my two pence:
I think band auditions may be a good way to start, as who's not a fan of music? There could be lots of possibilities in that for tours and things, and there's no limit to the amout of roadies, groupies and hardcore fans that could tag along with the band and do allsorts between shows.

Another idea, cliche abound, is a College club? Don't know exacty what for, but I'm sure we could come up with something suitably geeky :D. And there are lots of possibilities for outside meetings, in school hook ups, loads of visits to houses and various diners/cafes.

You can tell I don't do this too often, this is only my third RPG, second (possibly) erotic one. Oh the memories of the Harry Potter Slash RPG... *sigh*

Anyway, all suggestions welcome!

Depending on the level of geek-ness that people want, a convention of some sort might be a pretty good reason for an unusually dense concentration of geeks at one location. Something big, like the San Diego Comic-Con, or something else similar?

See, that's way better than my idea. And we can have cosplay! So then we can RP as our cosplay characters? It's the free and easy way!

Yep, RP within RP! And where there are cons there invariably will be hotels, large convention centers with plenty of rooms to, erm, "explore," etc. etc. etc.

I think this will have to be put to the vote eventually, but it's the best idea so far. (it's also the only one apart from mine).

Where are all you guys from the geek tribute theads? Evil GEEKS!

Another thought I had that might make a compatible setting is on-location filming for a TV show or movie. Characters could range anywhere from walk-on extras, fans of the TV show crowding around hoping for a glimpse of a scene or a spoiler for an upcoming episode, etc. to members of the production staff (writers, directors, stage hands, technical advisors) to the actual stars themselves (especially if the TV show/movie is something we make up entirely for the setting).

i like the Con idea,

it has alot of posibilities,

This is my alter ego persay, the bard

Another idea that could work, is a type of clue game, like a who done it murder mystery. where we interact to try to figure out whats going on.

the only limitation on this is, that it may someday have an end, but who knows. half the fun is trying isn't it.

Great idea btw NanashiKuro :)

Thanks! Though I have to say that it was farscapemonkey that inspired me.
And yeah, a sexy Scooby Doo! Haha, that was my first thought, and it's a bit wrong...
No seriously it's a good idea.
When we get as many as we will, we should have a vote, so no settling on anything yet.
Great work on the chars guys, mine will be up, soon, honest. As soon as I figure out her name.
Good thinking Batfolks on the History, it only just clicked to me that it would be a good idea to leave it til we at least have a genre. But feel free to keep back any info that might be a spoiler, and to change anything before we start the RP, nothing in stone yet.

Here's wishing for a few more people!:D

History
[depends on setting]

I completely vote for the Con ^_^

General Information
Alias/Alternate Identities: Wraith of Sorrow, Yeny, The Adorable Evil
Birth/Given Name: Christina Brydoc
Nick Name(s): Cat-tina
Race: Human last I checked...it's quite possible she's a changeling..not in the scifi sense but in the old mythic sense like fae kidnapping babies and leaving a creature that looks exactly like it in his/her place.
Gender: female
Age: 20
Apparent Age: >_> 20?
Date and Place of Birth: 87.... Florida, USA
Occupation: Writer, student, and complete slacker

Physical Appearance
Eyes: hazel
Hair: short, about chin-length, dark brown (a shade or two from black)
Height: 5' 3
Weight: you do realize that that is just terribly impolite... 140 lbs.
Skin: pale not sick-like, just used to be tan and decided not to even try and keep it up
Physical flaws or quirks: there's a a large freckle in the vague shape of a butterfly on her upper right thigh

Other Stuff
Personality/Attitude: Absolutely certifiable. She rarely holds back in telling people what she thinks, especially if it's an insult. She doesn't trust people in general but isn't all paranoid about it. She actually happens to enjoy fighting even if it's only for fun's sake. It lends a little spice to life. She's insecure about her looks but does what she likes anyways. Everyone else's opinions be damned. If the time is taken to earn her respect and affection, she's very loyal and will always extend a helping hand and a crying shoulder. The flipside of this is if she doesn't know the person and they get all emo on her, she'll just laugh and walk away.
Weaknesses: Zombies(seriously scare the living hell out of her.. she's gotten to the point that it doesn't matter where she is, She has a a pan if a zombie apocalypse happens)... those she cares for....
Religion/Beliefs: Non-denominational Christian. She believes there is only one God. She believes that Jesus Christ died on the cross to pay for mankind's sins. She just doesn't happen to believe all the crap they've put into the various churches in the mean time.
Education/Training: Basic high school with some Business major skills under her belt. Most of what she deems as useful knowledge was garnered from over a decade's worth of reading various mythologies and many other books. Some of which contained many uses for herbs, including various poisons.
Specialties: Cooking. It gives her something to do with her hands and no one has complained yet. She's also a low-level empath. She can feel what everyone is feeling most of the time but hates it and therefore ignores it as best she can.
Favoured sexual genres: Roleplaying including but not limited to; sci-fi, fantasy, and non-consensual. She's strictly a one on one girl. Too many times has there been a suggested threesome and she found herself facing another set of boobs. She isn't against it on a general level but girls just do nothing for her.
Fetishes: masochism, vampires, voyeurism, and physically fighting before sex....*shrugs* she likes the domination if they manage to beat her and if she wins..well they've gotten all worked up and sweaty in the meantime

History
Labeled a genius in elementary school, she almost immediately set about proving them wrong. As opinionated as she was, she didn't like being in gifted programs. They bored her and at least in regular classes, she had time to daydream without having to worry about her grades.

Her family moved a lot and stuck being the permanent new kid, she sought refuge in books rather than continue trying to stop her various classmates from teasing her. By high school, her family finally settled down but by then she had no social skills to speak of and soon found she preferred it that way. Most people she tried to talk to didn't understand half of what she was saying and the others just wanted to use her for one reason or another.

Fandoms:
Mythology, Scifi(especially Star Trek: TNG and Doctor Who), Shakespeare, Fantasy, Anime, and superheroes (superman, batman, green lantern, justice league, spiderman, fantastic four)

(I wrote this completely high on insomnia and sugar..it may or may not make sense)

General Information
Alias/Alternate Identities: Shadow Charlie
Birth/Given Name: Zack Doe
Nick Name(s): KoD
Race: Human (out of curiosity, is there another option we can pick?)
Gender: Male… ish
Age: 20
Apparent Age: 17
Date and Place of Birth: 1988, isle of man (near England)
Occupation: student/pro gamer

Physical Appearance
Eyes: blue, but pink with contacts, wears glasses
Hair: blue black
Height: 5’7
Skin: ungodly pale
Physical flaws or quirks: Zack – Adams apple = woman. Apart from the lack of breasts of course, that is the only thing differentiating his from a woman, and even then it’s hardly noticeable. Rather gruesome scars on his left side and around to his back.

Other Stuff
Personality/Attitude: has a slight case of Dissociative identity disorder, causing him to have a few personalities that pop up in the right situations, with his main identity having only fuzzy memories at best. He can fly in to psychotic rages, although he cant do much lasting damage, he hurts, this identity is mainly identified as Shadow Charlie after their constant P2 choice in Marvel Super Heroes VS Street Fighter (he is the current world champ) when talking about his normal personality, he refers to it as Mr Fancy Pants.
Weaknesses: mental disorder, physically weak, susceptible to bribes and betting, won’t say no to a woman.
Religion/Beliefs:
FUCK GOD!!!!!
Education/Training: it certifications, going for advanced diplomas
Specialties: every video game known to man, especially MSHvsSF, free running
Favoured sexual genres: strong women, dominance and submission for each of his personalities, he would get a kick out of role-play, but only video games would really do it for him
Fetishes: everything gets him off, it just depends on the mood.

History
For the first few year of his life his mother treated him as a girl, because while driving to the hospital for the birth her husband and daughter were killed in a car accident, she barely survived. For the first 15 years of his life he was for all intensive purposes a girl, even his schools thought so, until one day he got hit on by a lesbian, the secret was out.
His mother was committed, he was sent to psychiatrists, but it didn’t do any good, he has lived on his own since 16, living off the governments pay, money from his crazy mothers bank and his winnings from video gaming.
(I will elaborate this part when setting is revealed)

On the subject of race, I was thinking that we could be set in a world where all sorts of fantasy creatures exist alongside humans, and have done for centuries so it’s nothing new. Just an idea to add to the Geek Heaven-ness of it all. :D Well, that and I LOVE ELVES!

Here’s my girl:

General Information
Alias/Alternate Identities: Harlequin
Birth/Given Name: Meribeth Sinlaeda
Nick Name(s): Merry
Race: Half-Elf
Gender: Female
Age: 19
Apparent Age: 23
Date and Place of Birth: 1988, Northern England
Occupation: Freelance junior journalist.

Physical Appearance
Eyes: Green, thin and long
Hair: Blue-black, cut just above her ears, usually spiked up.
Height: 5’8”
Weight: 210lb
Skin: Pale tan, with a hint of yellow-green
Physical flaws or quirks: Big breasted compared to most half-elves, also more broad shouldered. Tiny point to her ears, but barely noticeable, so most people mistake her for human.

Other Stuff
Personality/Attitude: Brash, sarcastic and untrusting exterior, born of shyness. An enquiring mind and always out to spot a story that will make her. Talks to herself quite a lot, sometimes smirks for no apparent reason.
Weaknesses: Long hair, bad jokes, good food and good music.
Religion/Beliefs: Atheist, believes that she controls her destiny.
Education/Training: College in England, dropped out of University and took a mail-order course for a diploma in Journalism.
Specialties: Judging personalities, knowing what people want before they do.
Favoured sexual genres: Prefers vanilla, bi-curious, older men
Fetishes: Sex with a stranger, men in uniform, costume role-play

History
Born to a human mother and an elven father. Half-elves are still uncommon as the two races tend to stick with their own, though there’s no real taboo about it.

The idea of being set in a world where fantasy creatures are real is interesting, but it does raise one thought: wouldn't that change the meaning of what it is to be a geek? In a world where elves live alongside humans, a guy with an elf fetish wouldn't be a geek like he would be in the "real" world... he'd just be a dude with an elf fetish, kinda like how we don't call people geeks just for having Asian fetishes.

I guess the bigger question is what we mean when we say "When Geeks Get Together." Do we mean, "This is the kind of RP story that results when the RP is run by geeks," or do we mean, "This is a RP about what happens when a lot of geeks hang out in the same place"?

yeah if such things were common place it wouldn't do much

I've got an idea.....

How about test subjects for a holodeck-type device...

One that provides a setting based on the collective thoughts of those within the virtual room.

That might be pretty fun, especially if it resulted in an amalgamation of everyone's different geekisms. Or it could be a rotating thing, like it'd pick out one person's thoughts at a time at certain intervals.

Kay, good point, we shall have to vote on that one too, methinks.

And I think we mean both by the story title. More of "when geeks run a thread of them hanging around as their geek characters."

The holodeck would be a good idea too, seems more original than the comic con, and I'm sure that we lot can come up with some pretty funky ideas for changing situations. Or maybe it would be an amalgamation of thoughts?

If anyone has any thoughts (even ones we've heard) it will be worthwile putting a pitch together to tell us more about the idea for when the voting happens.

Cheers to eveyone for wanting to take part, I can't wait.

the great thing about this all, is at any point, it could change. Isn't that one of the good things. Just like a good book, put some plot twist in the middle. Like for a while have it start in a comic con. lets just say the one in san diago (comic con) where we all meet up, and are all in character like cosplay. Then we all could make a pact to move to the other cons, whichever one we chose. Like lets say a con based on star wars, or star trek, or just about anything else.. The great thing is that our characters will change as we interact and change settings, giving us more of a chance to step out in new directions.

like here is part of my real background. I was 4 years old and told to play the first game-- Pong, because i had wandering eye so bad. I was huge into sports at the time also, so i was pretty athletic. in 8th grade i grew 10 inches, but gained no weight. I was 5'8" but weighed only 128 pounds. Wore glasses, was in the chess club, the Dungeons and Dragons club, i wrestled, ran track, ran cross country, played baseball, and had nintendo, intellivision, atari, ect.

now i am a writer, a dreamer, and i still am waiting for the right girl to take my heart. I spend about 8 hours a day working, and another 8 playing on my computer, being world of warcraft or lit, or writing, or chatting. I don't play sports much anymore (vollyball is it).

our characters can develop just like i did IRL.

Sorry for the long post, just thought this would give some insight into how things can change from moment to moment.

P.S. i have about 20 years experience in RPGs. off line and online. :D

XD 20 years wow I've only got about six .. I feel so behind now....

The best characters are developing ones... No one likes a 2-d personality...save maybe for mocking purposes

You're behind?!
I have half a decent RP under my belt, had to leave that because it was moving too quickly and I couldn't get internet access every day. And I'm supposed to be DM? Argh.
I have played through a few games, but that's not the same.

The seat-of-pants method may be employed.

(ps Proof I should be dumb: I didn't work out what D&D meant 'til last year...)

well I never said the majority of those years held decent rp... I think I've only had about three not counting the ones on Lit the past couple of weeks...that I stuck with after a few days.

i like your char NaN...:)

ya..we need to figure this shit out..lol.....
my char is geared a bit towards a fantasy setting..but could easily go any other way.....*shru*..donno.....
