Question About Authors Notes

My question is regarding the Authors Note section when you submit a story. I know for the last two stories that I have had accepted, I had comments in the Authors Notes sections to be posted with the story.

Is the Authors Notes section only for the vetting process and if I want to add additional notes I need to add them at the beginning/ending of the story? Or have my Authors Notes simply gone AWOL?

In conjunction: Is there an acceptable way to add an Authors note via some function or tackily add one via the comments section?

I'm not sure what you are referring to. The only "Notes" section I see on the submissions page are notes on format or special handling for the attention of the submissions editor. The explanation given below this block clearly says these notes will not appear on the posted story.

If you want notes to appear with the story, I think you need to put them at top or the bottom of the story, probably best inside parenthesis so it's clear they aren't part of the story text.

Yeah, I post my author's notes in the text imput window with the main text. I put in italics myself with <i> and </i>.

If you want to add an author's note to an already submitted story you can, you just have to go through the normal process of submitting a modification to your story, which should be explained somewhere in the Lit faq or one of the sticky on the forum.

Before the story begins, if I have any notes to share, I precede them with "Author's Note:" and share them. My personal preference is to have the note above the title, thereby not confusing the reader with the possibility that the note is part of the story itself.

How do you get an author's note above the title in a Lit. story. I don't see that as an option in their submissions format.

And I'd suggest putting parentheses around an author's note--so that it isn't confused with the story text.

The author's notes are above the subtitle in your story, not the title. The italics look fine to me.

I use "Author's Notes:" and italics to set them off as well. Most of the time, I drop a scene separator in afterwards.

Parentheses would work just as well, I should imagine - perhaps better if they aren't used anywhere in the story. I think it's "Author's Notes:" that declares it more than anything.

This is certainly the most common format for author's notes on Lit, so nobody will bat an eyelash at you for doing it this way.
