Nice pics ARW!

Totality here.

10:00 - right on schedule! ;)

Very cool Work.

Odd that it seems to have an almost orange tint to it here that your pics don't show. Must be pollution in the air here.

Orange/red here in Fla. too--looks like Mars. Must be a trick of the light. ;)

Many clouds here in NC but we got enough breaks to make it good :D

Now that the grandkids are in bed I can relax
They got a real kick out of it, 10, 7, 6 :D

Thank you, AvoidingRealWork and cheerful_deviant, for your wonderful photography.

And thank you, christabelll, for the lovely new moon spell.

It's all about how I'm doing the exposure. I switched to much longer exposure for totality, and we're getting the orange as well:

Unfortunately I can't get a good focus on it now. I need wife's photography expertise.

Thanks for the swell pictures "AvoidingRealWork" and "cheerful_deviant" and thanks, "SweetWitch"- y'all sure do throw a helluva lunar eclipse party!
:)

Thank you, honey. It's been a hell of a lot of fun.

I can see the first flash of returning light. It's almost over. :(

I just went out to check it out. It's very cold out, and dark - only 5 percent of the moon was showing. It was very quiet, and in the medium distance I could hear cats screeching and caterwauling. Eerie, and - perfect! Very cool.

The coyotes are yipping here. I love that sound.

A screech owl just wailed a minute ago--and the scent of jasmine is heavy in the air.

Moon's about 1/2 lighted now.

Chuck-Wills-Widow is singing across the way.

Night is beautiful! :D

Wish I was there with you. It's bitter cold here.

mooning over moonwatching

Hey all sorry I missed the chatting -
my kids and I stood in the snow and watched it go total...
As I explained the colors and the stars around them the wonderstruck face of my boy lit up the night. He was glowing, intrigued blue eyes were large as he heard me explain how an eclipse occured. He said wow mom, I've never seen a solar eclipse before. Gently correcting him, he asked me what the difference was - Wow mom, I never knew that before. I got to see it. Thats just freaky cool mom. He bounced into bed, and asked me about more stars... we talked a while longer, then he said you know mom, maybe I could be an astronomerery (his words) or something. I answered him of course darling, you can be anything you want and studying stars is cool. He grinned and pretended to go to sleep. Tucking his blankets tight I kissed his forhead and turned out the light. Love you -
I went to my daughter who had fled the chill for her covers. That was really neat momma. But it was scarey that it was red and black and not white anymore. Will it stay that way? As I explained to her why it turned those colors, the tension eased from her little body and she snuggled deeper into her pillow. I'm so glad you let us see it mommy. Her growing up little girl voice calm and sleepy. It was really cool. I kissed her cheek and said goodnight - Love you baby.
It was really special to be able to share that with them as we have so little time together. they are 8 &9 respectively.
The SO and I watched a little while longer, till we were driven inside from the biting cold. The little pretending scamps had teamed up in my girls room - whispering and scaring eachother spitless over the eclipse. After much ado and a bruised nose (accidental I am assured) they finally collapsed into sleep. SO and I - talked a little while longer - he is now asleep and I watched the tail end of it alone.
I tried to sleep - my head hurts too much. So I turn the brightness on the puter down - and here I am. Wishing for the comfort of sleep and finding none.
Too jacked from the energy - and paying for it........
I wish your gran was here too - Sweetwitch - no one had been able to help my headaches.

Christa,

You have my sympathy. Those headaches are murder. Sassafras tea is often soothing.

My daughter was tucked in just after the start of the eclipse. She thought it was neat that it looked like something had taken a bite out of it. At the end of totality, she fell out of bed. I went to check on her and asked if she wanted to see something cool.

At the window, so stood with her eyes and mouth agape, watching the first white stream of light appear. Then it was back to bed. This morning she asked if I would make the moon get all funny red again tonight. 6-year-olds are funny creatures.

I watched until very late. There was a gorgeous halo around the moon after it was all over.

I watched with my wife and kids, sneaking peeks from 8:30 to 10:00 then staying out from 10:00 til about 10:20. then the kids were so tired, I had to take them in.

I did hug my oldest and told him that he could be part of the team that colonizes the moon if he really put himself to it. He just grinned then jumped into bed.

I watched it last night. I thought it would be obscured by cloud but there was a clear spell for a few minutes.

The orange tint is refracted light bent by the earth's atmosphere.

Og

I've never been able to see the Man in the Moon. Not once.

I see the Chinese rabbit. How could anybody miss those ears?!

Anyone else?
