How long do you keep trying before calling it quits?

We've all heard this one: “Insanity: doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.”

But then some people say that quitting is showing signs of weakness.

So if you keep trying something and that it doesn't work, no matter which way you try or how many times, at what point do you call it quits?

Depends on what you are attempting.

I think when you come up with a different strategy. You realize that a particular plan won't work and you decide that maybe a new plan will. you have the experience to try it.

It does depend on what you are trying to achieve. However, that you've used the insanity reference in your first sentence leads me to speculate that perhaps deep down you know you won't get different results. You might try approaching what it is you're trying to do from a different angle or perspective. Perhaps bring in a neutral party to critique what you are doing and give feedback. Change the "doing the same thing over and over again" to "trying it in a different way."

Good luck.

Well, if it's really THAT important to you. It better kill ya before you quit.

*light bulb moment* Thanks, FT. :)

another 'quote' from a place where that is commonly said "God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change...the courage to change the things I can...and the wisdom to know the difference."

When you are tired of failing, you will let it go. Quitting is not a sign of weakness unless it is done to save face or it is your first choice. Other people think they can do anything and be anything. Personally...I doubt it...talk is cheap.

I agree, it is confusing. there are times, when quitting is the wiser option and times when pursuing is the smarter choice. :D

I think it really depends on the situation and what is your end result and what you are trying to achieve. I think if you've tapped all your resources and strategies and action plans, you might need to scrap it altogether and take the loss. I think if you've really tried to make the effort and it didn't come to fruition, then you should stop wasting your time and energy on it and move forward to something else. I think quitting is a weakness when you give up too early and haven't tried different tactics and haven't used all your resources.

I'm exhausted...

Thanks JG. :)

If you find you are becoming more frustrated each time then quit and give yourself a break. Look for something else when you are ready to accept another challenge.

I think that step will hurt, but it will hurt less than staying the course. Funny how that works...

yea....one thing I do is always give myself an option. Dont make any decision tonight. If you feel the same way tomorrow...or a week from now...then do what is best for you. You can only give what you have.
