hey, i didnt buy that last stuff.

I'm know. I'm just making an example of it. You don't have to buy expensive rope, just make sure that you buy the right stuff when you go inexpensive, and you're fine, as you so cheerfully express.

ETA: Another example was a friend that's unhappy because the rope bought was nylon/poly blend with a high poly percentage, and was braid over core. It was rope in a bag, and marked Nylon diamond braid. This is why I say again and again to buy it off the spool. While you're still going to get nylon/poly blend these days, the nylon count is usually higher on the spool, and if it says solid braid, you know you are getting solid braid, not braid over mystery core.

Spool is your friend. Bag is not. (Though all spool rope is not necessarily great. It just seems far more common to find crap rope in the bags and better rope on the spools.)

*shrug* I honestly don't know that I need it any more blatant. I like the posters I've got here, and know of a good number more tha lurk. I can't really complain. Lotsa page views, lotsa responses. I'm pretty happy. I may bump the text size a wee bit though. We'll see how it looks.

Partially it is pure variety, but largely it is because each type of rope has different characteristics. Much like different golf clubs, each line is useful for different roles. There's overlap as well, and, in some cases, I have the rope because I have no reason to get rid of it. The nylon/poly blend stuff, for example I have is crap, sure, but it is useful enough, and very easy to maintain. So it rocks for tying at parties on bottoms I don't know well. The hemp is tough, and feels good, looks goood, and leaves good mark. The flax is lovely wonderful soft stuff. The MFP is just gorgeously coloured and still tough as it is synthetic, etc. Each rope has its' place. Even the derby rope I've got has its' use, as it has good load-bearing, and thus can be used in pratial and full suspensions.
