Hi Chaps, I really need your help.

I am about to make my first submission <chews nails> and I just realised that whatever pen-name I choose I will have to stick with for my writing career, so I can build a reputation.

I would dearly like to stick with Vermilion, somehow, but it doesn't fit well into a two-word name. Listed in the poll are a number of names I have come up with, but I am still very open to new ideas. I tried to choose names and words that had a connection to me somehow. I want a name that sounds very English (in the first name, at least) but not too commonplace. Something that hints at subversive sexuality ;)

These are all the names individually that mean something to me, if you think you can make a better name.

-Vermilion
-Emelia/Emilia/Amelia (though I prefer the 'E' spellings)
-Annabel
-Arabella <-- just thought of this and really like it...
-Clara (maybe... I'm not quite sure)
-Hampton
-Bedford
-Adams
-Lazarus

If you like Vermillion and it doesn't step on another known author's toes, why don't you just stick with that? There's nothing saying a pen name has to have more than one element.

And therefore become the Cher/Madonna of the erotica world. ;)

Since names with initials seem popular, how about combining your Lit name with a couple of the above-mentioned favorites? E.F. Vermillion, perhaps?

lol

Just be the ever mysterious 'Vermilion'?

Hrmm... I'll think about it :D

I'll wait till a few more people have voted/commented first though. Thanks guys.

I'm kinda partial to "Emelia Adams." It has a nice ring to it, flows evenly off the tongue. And, when listed alphabetically by surname, will come first in the bookstore aisles. ;)

Emelia Adams rolls off the tongue nicely. I also like the idea of using Vermilion.

Good marketing advice.

Marketing; another word for "devious." :D

Understanding of the human animal. First hit is the first call made. And I am too lazy to get past S, assuming I make it past M.

I can be devious though. The concept of an "innocent" name writing erotica might stimulate interest as well.

Stimulation is always good.

Ms Emilia Adams - sounds mildly exotic, a little Victorian, a Christian tinge, and beats Amado in the listings :D

If you want to keep Vermillion somehow, why not try an anagram or partial sound like - like Millie Verrone or something.
I know, I'm talking out my arse here. Seeing as I can't come up with a decent pen name for myself, I've got buckleys with anyone else!

OK. Top runners are

Emelia Adams

and

Vermilion Bedford

And I just thought of the first name Arabella.

So now we have 3 first names and 2 surnames...

Emelia--------------------}______________________________Adams
Arabella------------------}______________________________Bedford
Vermilion-----------------}

All those first names are multi-syllable. That being the case, a single-syllable name should work well. For some reason, I'm stuck on (LEE or LEIGH) as in: Arabella Leigh or maybe Vermillion Lee.

Just a thought.

Rumple Foreskin

Personally, I vote "Emelia Hampton" but since it's not one of the apparent choices, I'll vote for "Emelia Adams". I agree with the others that it rolls of the tongue well.

Use your real initials followed by Vermilion. That is what I would do anyway (no, not entirely true, I would just use my real name or my screen name, as dopey as "Thee Goat Pig" is, that is what I would stick with).

I like Emelia Adams... and I don't even think there's an "Amelia Adams" (that I could find, anyway!) out there in erotic romanceland...

;)

I kinda like Arabella Vermillion. But it might be a bit of a mouthful.

I didn't choose a pen name until I had a novel accepted for publication. I don't think you need one just to submit. I don't know if you could sign an "anonymous" contract -- at some point you'll have to reveal your actual identity to a publisher or editor.

What was it about Vermilion that made you choose it in the first place?

I voted for Emelia Adams, but I wanted to throw in Anita Duet just for the chuckle factor.

How about...

Victoria Bedford-Adams

or

Victoria Lazarus-Adams

or just

Vicky Adams
