Is there any way to see the vote breakdowns for a story?

Just curious.

If a story has a rating of around 4 and was given mainly 4's I'd be thinking I didn't get the story to come out as well as I intended.

If a story has a rating of around 4 and was given mainly 5's and a 1 I'd be thinking a troll wandered by and wouldn't worry about it.

Ah, poor old erotic horror. One 1-bomb and a story is forever torpedoed.

No. One calculates. I have a 4.67 with 39 votes, so I figure two-thirds 5's and one-third 4's, but I suppose I'm just guessing. There's no listing.

You can track the votes and come up witha fairly close approximation but you have to check often enough to catch the score and vote total every one to three votes -- more work that it's worth.

FWIW, unless you have a reason to believe otherwise, the majority of your votes will be Fives or Ones with a very few Fours and Twos and almost no Threes.

Using Cant's example of 4.67 with 39 votes:

4.67 * 39 = 182.13~~182.

182/5 = 36 Fives? leaving three votes for total of 2 points.

so, (35 *5) + 4 + (3*1) == 36 votes and a score of 4.67.

There are other combinations that give the same result, but the distribution of two One votes and a single Four vote on a Hot rated story is consistent with the votiing patterns I've observed here over the years.

Yes, it'd give a much clearer picture of the standing of a story - we may think we're getting lots of fives and the odd troll 1 to screw with the score when it's really a lot of 4s with the odd 5 and 1.

If you watch the Top lists for a couple of days, you'll realize that most stories are getting mostly Fives with only an occasional Four and the odd One or Two to bring the score down.

If you're only getting Fours with an occasional Five or Three and the odd Troll vote, you'll know it fairly quickly, but that's really a very rare situation in my observations. Lit Voters tend to be extremists and the only reason there are Two, Three, and Four votes is to keep the One and Five from having to associate. :p

I suspect that things have changed a little bit, with the new "Star Rating System".

I just posted a story that I thought was pretty good. So far, it has a 4.26 rating with 90 votes. I've never gotten that many votes before, nor that low of a rating.

I may be wrong, but...

Don't forget to account for those of us who, if we really adore your story, will give it a seven. (A five and two ones.)

It will be interesting to see if the Stars do change the voting patterns, but I think that once people learn how to use the system things will go back to normal.

Actually, it would be nice if the ratings weren't so top heavy and Red H stories a bit less common.

4.26 rating with 90 votes: (figured for the most optimisitic combination)

(34*5) + (52*4) + (0*3) + (1*2) + (3*1) = 383

So you do indeed have more Fours than Fives but a single story doesn't make a trend.

I agree, a single story does not make a trend.

Still, I would like to hear what other authors have to say, after posting their stories under the new "Star System".

BTW, I think that the new system is a good idea. Under the old system, IMHO, the voting was skewed towards the high end. For example, I've read some stories that were really pretty bad; bad grammer, spelling errors all over the place, not at all entertaining, etc. and they still had ratings of 3.8 - 4.1.

I think that you're assuming that votes are based on how well or poorly written the story is. In my opinion the vote count is based on the mood of the reader.

The same as in the real book world. Geoffrey Archer is a best selling novelist. I can assure you that it's not because he can write well.
