Showing off my quilts!

I leave Wed for my family christmas (family meaning Ma'am, her sub and various other people we consider family) in PA. The family has done so much for me over the years, helping me with tickets to come down there and paying my way through events and meals when I can't afford it. This year I got a job in a quilt shop and learned to quilt...so I decided to make everyone a quilt. I've been working on them all year (and working them OFF all year as one quilt costs upward of $300 to make). Here are the results...I can't wait to give them to them. I also made pillowcases out of minkee (a very very soft fabric) and matching borders.

I also made this for b as a thank you gift. When my great dane Emma passed away, I had her cremated but didn't have the money to claim her ashes. b paid for her to come home, and I appreciate it so much. The dogs in the quilt are hand appliqued and quilted on, as are my 3 dogs, b's 4 dogs (including one that passed) and her Domme's two dogs. I quilted the dogs' names in the border along with "Pets are family too".

This is for Ma'ams other sub, C. C likes purple and black, but I wanted to do something a bit more funky and fun so this was the result. You can't really tell in the photo, but the colourful fabric is a bunch of little triangles with a striped-colouring to them, and the colour pieces also have a subtle stripe, so it all looks really damn cool together in person.

This is Ma'ams quilt. The backing has a gorgeous mustard and black horse silhouette theme as I am her pony. The front is mostly oriental and asian fabrics. I quilted special dates, nicknames etc into the borders.

This is K's....she is a friend that used to be in relationships with b and C and Ma'am, but now is just a friend. She likes red and black a lot and I loved this pattern. I quilted it in a flame sort of meandering design.

This is for N, C's wife. (the only non-kinky one of our family) She loves purple and blue, and themes of love and family. I quilted all of our names into it as well as inspirational words like hope, love, family, etc.

This is for S, also in former-relationships with C and K, but now just a friend. She loves animals but recently lost her dog and cat and hasn't yet gotten any more pets because her job keeps her away from home a lot, so I thought she would like this one. The back on this is sooo cute, a dark blue cat fabric. I quilted "Meow" all over in the borders.

soooo....just wanted to share. I'm really excited to give them, I love giving homemade, personal gifts.

Oh my God, seri - everything you make is so good, but I'm blown away by these.

I know exactly how hard this is to do and how much work goes into these, because I have a folded half done lap quilt in "snowball" pattern (hi, easy) which will probably not get done - it's just not in my capabilities.

These are amazing. I hope every one of the people who gets one of these treasures them as they should.

Oh Netz, I've heard you mention that pattern before and always meant to look it up and finally did...am so glad I did. I'm collecting snowflake-themed fat quarters to make myself a quilt when I have about 50 different fabrics, and have been looking for the perfect pattern for it...this is it! Awesome...thanks for jogging my memory...and for the compliments as well

I'd love to learn - but I don't know anyone who knows how, and can't afford to pay to learn. Plus my sewing machine BIT IT and I HATE hand sewing.

It's funny, I thought I would hate hand sewing too, but I actually love it. All the dogs in the dog hanging are hand stitched and I'm itching for a new handstitching project. Very odd for me.

Check out quilt shops, they often have lessons/classes for free with purchase of supplies or for a small fee, and let you borrow machines, especially if they sell them, as they want you to sew on them and see how awesome their brand is. If it's something you end up hating, at least you will know it in advance before spending a lot of money and first time projects are usually fairly inexpensive to make (table runners, wall hangings, etc)

I've hand sewed off and on my whole life. I hate it. Plus it makes my hands hurt.

I have always admired hand made over the classiest mass produced items, and I would treasure one of your gift quilts!

At Christmas or birthday, any gift I recieve that was hand made almost always gives me more pleasure than something I know I can just go to a store and replace....probably I take greater care of such gifts too.

I'm a sewing machine snob...Bernina only for me. Once you sew on one, you'd never go back.

We have some awesome new knitted/crocheted purse patterns in the store, I'll have to give you the link once I get them on the website. WAYYYY too hard for me, but man are they neat when they are felted and finished.

try Freecycle in your area. Never know, maybe someone bought a machine thinking they would sew and never use it.

My art background came in handy big time in the quilting venture. I have people stop in the quilt shop and request me to help them pick fabrics, as many quilters are intimidated by it and it's my favourite part of quilting. Very big compliment for me, and I always enjoy helping someone conduct a great "fabric interview session" and walk out loving their purchase.

As usual for you, exquisite in all the right ways. Suspect you are going to have some seriously profound memories from when you hand those over. Guarantee the providence and sincerity of thought you put into each will remain unforgettable to each person that a quilt is bestowed. It would knock my socks off.

I joined a Quilting Group because the teacher was kind enough to accept me as I wanted to teach myself Hawaiian Applique, I needed someone to refer back to as my most basic sewing skills had diminished over the years. It was cool, I really enjoyed just listening to the woman talk. In hindsight I can see much of that relates back to the need to feel nurtured by woman. My mother had died not long before and I was craving that feeling woman can extend to each other, especially between generations. Only about a dozen of us in a small pleasant room in the back of an old house which fronted as fabric store. You could get fabric craving or an idea and just step 'outside' in all the treasures of cottons. My point is, I see quilts, especially done with the sentiment and love you have extended as a highly emotive craft. Quite sets it apart from many other comparable crafts in it's consistency to convey that.

I get that. It's addictive stuff huh. HA is all handstitching. Goes back to the Missionaries teaching the native Hawaiian woman how to sew and their interpretation on these skills. Quite a history, much rebellion implied. I couldn't wait to deal with everything else at times so I could get back to it. In my signature line, if you are interested, there is a link to compendium, Trivia section there is a image of a cushion I hand stitched. Took about 60 hours if memory serves me correctly. I have a another started, some random disaster interrupted the flow, I must get back to it.
