Sir Edmund Hillary was an extraordinary human being.

If you've ever done any climbing, you understand the incredible will power, fortitude, strength of character and self discipline this man possessed.

He never forgot his climbing partner Tenzig Norgay nor the invaluable assistance provided to him by the Sherpa people. Hillary's work on their behalf is another testament of a noble, exemplary and full life.

As a Sherpa, I'm always offended when people claim Edmond Hilary was the first man to summit Everest. Most of us make five or six round-trips to the summit per day, in shirt-sleeves and while smoking a cigarette, just to keep you anglos in dry socks and Power Bars.

Jeez.

He was kind of hot, too. If you judge by his pictures.

Oh yeah. And Tengsing Norgay was smokin'.

Gosh, this one gut-punches me for some reason. Norgay too a few years ago. They were real men, and the last of a breed somehow. The world was was larger then in the best sense of the word, and more filled with the promise of adventure, challenge and mystery. Which means it's smaller now, and not in a happy-face Disney sense. :(

RIP, Sir Edmund, and Sir Tensing. :rose:
