Searching has been disabled.

Checked the announcements forum for an explanation, but found nothing.

The whole forum was down here for 12 hours. For several hours before that it had the extreme slows. I think it's sick.

Oh - it still has the extreme slows/intermittent service. Yes, it's sick.

I think they mean the thread search feature that used to be in the toolbar at the top of the page that includes "user CP, FAQ, Member List, etc." It's gone from mine, too.

Yep. And when you click on a user name to find any posts or threads of that person, that feature is gone too (obviously, since it's really just a search as well).

Methinks (and hopes and prays) that searching hasn't been intentionally disabled. The ability to read someone's previous posts is very important to me. I sure hope it's just a temporary glitch.

When I first saw this thread earlier today, I had no problem with the function and assumed that it was an isolated incident. Now (22:14 EST 8 January), however, I have also gotten a message that the search function has been disabled. Let's hope it isn't permanent; it would be a real loss.

I've PM'd him with a persistent case of "Database Error" to help him resolve the issue. But I'm pretty sure he's aware of the problem because the Search Function is disabled as in "turned off" rather than disabled as in "broken."

However, I suspect that the corrective action that has to be taken before Search can be re-enabled is the entire forum database has to be re-indexed from scratch, which -- given there are over 2 million posts to index -- is going to take a while, especially since new posts are being added to the database at a near normal pace.
