My story has been hacked

anytime, numbnuts.

You know, the difference might be that I actually have a LIFE. Ever think of that? Of course, I could pound out a story every single day, if I didn't care about the quality, hmmm?

Coulda, shoulda, mighta. lol.

Lots of talk, honey, and no show (that's what you cyber yakkers are good at). Even Darkinaid, no forum friend of mine, gave me full marks for four Winter Holiday stories. And your story was?

(You have no idea what our comparable "away from the boards" life is, do you? I don't either--but I don't invoke the unknowable. That's something you cyber yakkers like to do. Like on this thread--trying to assume and give guidance on the basis of almost no actual experience.)

I'm confused. Couldn't add to the good advice already given so I had a quick look at your story - assuming you are talking about 'Finding Lia'.

The story seems to fit the title, category, story tags and comments and seems to fit the same style as your new story 'Dream'. If this isn't your story. it makes no sense. There doesn't seem to be a glitch and who on earth would want to write a complete story and post it under your name and title?

Whatever is going on, it doesn't seem to be 'hacking'.

Would love to know the outcome.

Maybe it's already been fixed.

I'd be happy to judge. :D

Seriously, sr, it bothers me when you criticize people for not writing as fast as you do. In my case, I'm truly a novice, and it takes me a long time to write. Yeah, I do yak on here, but not as much as I used to. Also, I have a job and a kid and a home to take care of, and sometimes I'm just not inspired to write.

I wrote two stories for the holiday contest. The first one was not good enough, according to my editor. The second one needed more work, also according to my editor, which I wasn't able to complete in time for the contest. I actually could have submitted two stories but chose not to.

Maybe you could take into account different levels of ability and experience. Maybe I should just shut up and mind my own business? Yeah, definitely. ;)

You wouldn't be an independent judge, of course. No one posting to the forums would be.

But to your other point--I only bring "paying dues" here up when someone takes out after me on the basis of what they do/are here (and that I'm not).

On this thread, Cantdog, Sweetsubsarahh, Cloudy (and Elfin, for that matter) took out after me on something they have no reason to have good knowledge of--or to question what my experience on this topic is. Among them for all of time, they can't come up with even 10 percent of the submissions experience I've had on this board in just the last year and a half.

I only got into the story quality issue when Cloudy made a swipe at the quality of my stories. I have never ever ever made a nasty comment on this forum about the quality of Cloudy's stories/essays (or those of anyone else who have posted on this thread). In fact, I complimented an essay she posted. But this isn't the first time she's denigrated mine just to be nasty when she was stalking me.

If the drones here--the ones who yak on the board but who haven't made enough contribution to the bread and butter raison d'etre of this Web site to spit at--go after me on my experiences of submission--or the quality of my stories or my writing/editorial knowledge, they'll get their droneness shoved back in their face.

I don't criticize posters here otherwise on either how much they write or how well they write (in fact, over at the feedback forum, I'm doing what I can not to have someone else's assumption of how everything should be written shoved down new writers' throats as opposed to finding their own voice and technique among the vast number of options that are available and legitimate)

No? I can find at least 10 recent posts where you've done just that.

I have no idea what the quality of your stories are. I wouldn't read one of them if you paid me. But you also have no idea if others are published elsewhere besides here, or how many stories have been pulled from this site. You're nothing but a blowhard, "ex-CIA" agent  SSS and I (among others) have paid our dues.

You'd rather assert that your opinion has more weight simply because you have more stories here - which is bullshit, and you know it.

If you don't like us here, by all means, leave. I don't think anyone will feel the lack.

(in the last two months, I can just about guarantee you've made more posts than I have. Pot, meet kettle)

And yet you had no problem posting on this thread that my stories sucked eggs. What a princess. :)

Nah, of the two of us, I have more right to be posting on "authors hangout" then you do.

(in the last two months, I can just about guarantee you've made more posts than I have. Pot, meet kettle)

And at the same time, I managed to contribute as many stories to the Web site in those two months than you have posted here back to June 2004. So, what is your point?

Its a tough job, but someone has to do it.

Says who? You?

BAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

You have no idea what I've written in that time, or where its posted (or published). Let's take a poll of the folks here, shall we? Or are you too afraid to see the results? :D

BFD. Touch you.

Sorry, not as impressed as you are with yourself.

Grow up.

Sorry, not as impressed as you are with yourself.

Well, sure. That's evident. (and wounds me to the core, of course).

But it's your turn to suck eggs. Your dishonesty is here for all to see. And you dropped in on my head from out of the blue again just to be nasty. You reap what you sow, babe. Someday you'll figure out the meaning of cause and effect.

LOL wtf have I started...

Yeah the story is fixed I just checked it then and I guess it got fixed prety fast seeing as people were saying the story matched the title as of yesterday, I did not expect such a speedy fix.

And if you PMd anyone, have you gotten an answer to the PM?

Excellent!

So glad to hear it, Jack.

Pleased for you Jack.

Glitches do happen here - ever found a perfect IT system? - but generally the guys that run the place are pretty good in fixing the bugs.

Hope it doesn't stop you posting more. A lot of us now know your name so you've got publicity.

The AH'ers do seem to do the intellectual lording over the GB'ers to some respect - but there are times...*grin*

Hey sr - you have stories here? Can't find you.

Sure I have stories here (since you asked). Shouldn't be hard to find if you want as they are under the same name I post here, sr71plt. The Web site has a search function by author on the main menu. Or you can just look back through the "new" lists; should find a listing every two or three days.

Most are GM, but there are some 50 there in other categories too; don't think there are many categories I've missed.

Alrighty then... I'll put my big head up against yours...

I have 175 stories on Lit that span 36 categories (inc poetry). (And it used to be over 200, before I pulled many of them for publishing.) Is that enough experience for you to give my opinion sufficent weight?

I have found the Literotica staff (mainly: Laurel) to be responsive, professional, and extremely accomodating. In all of the stories I've submitted, I have had TWO formatting problem. TWO. That's a pretty amazing statistic considering there is only one individual doing all the work of formatting and submitting 75+ new Lit stories EVERY day. Problems happen. They happen relatively infrequently. When they do, a polite PM takes care of the problem. Laurel doesn't always respond to my PMs - but she always, ALWAYS addresses the issue or fixes the problem.

I imagine she's rather busy and can't personally reply to every email or PM - but if your problem has been resolved - as Jack's was, and as you, Sr, admit yours was also - there's nothing left to complain about.

I didn't 'take out after you' at all. I just understood you'd had a post all screwed up whilst Jack had a complete story hijack. Made more confusing as all had been sorted.

If there were judgements against quantity before quality, Danielle Steel would still be starving in a loft in Paris. Simenon wrote 250 great novels and his best friend Gide only 5. Gide got recognized as a 'grand auteur' by Gallimard long before Simenon. Simenon made a lot more money.

Finding one's own voice and technique is often a lifetime quest for a writer, but it is essential that it is done with full knowledge of the norms - unless you have the natural genius of someone like Twain or Updike.

The comment you often make on new authors' stories, roughly, 'I haven't bothered reading what you wrote but you should ignore what others say and do your own thing', is possibly not as helpful as some of the detailed critiques that people like Varian and Jenny Jackson give. Don't tell me those pair are conformist sticklers for the 'norms'.

And if you PMd anyone, have you gotten an answer to the PM?

No, Laurel & Manu don't seem to reply to PMs, but you see the results in the action they take.

Lazy me - most have a link from their profile. Found you.

You or Cloudy more deserving?

*tch,tch*

Damn - just when I think I've found some kind of creative utopia where everyone gets along in the name of Art and Eros I realize that wherever you go, there you are.

Sorry, this misrepresents what I say in these instances. I'm being honest about how closely I've read the specific story in play (I edit and write professionally and come here to take breaks--there's a limit to how much depth I'll go into while I'm on my break). But I never make a comment on the specific story without having gone into the specific story enough to evidence my point. In most of the cases, I am reacting to some bum advice the writer is being given on the Feedback forum (and there's a whole lot of that going on there) that I don't have to read the story to know is bum advice--and I'm just trying to raise a flag for the story's author that they may have as good a judgment in how/what they wrote than the one giving them "advice" has.

And if I've ever ever countered advice from Varian, please be so good as to point it out to me. Varian gives great advice. I may (just possibly may) have had a slightly different take on something than she's had--but I don't remember ever thinking she was flatly wrong (as opposed to one or two others giving "blind leading the blind" advice there).

Excellent point.

And don't forget Penelope_Street's and Dr_Mabeuse's excellent additions... wonderfully constructive critics, both.

No lazy me. I'd first have to decide whether I wanted to advertise. Than I'd have to consider that right during/after a thread like this, my most recent story listing gets zapped (happened here too. Coincidence? Not likely.), so why should I make it easier. Then after resolving that, I'd have to try to figure out how to actually put in the link. Then I'd remember that I was going to go get a glass of wine. And guess which of those would actually happen.

Oh, is that what he said? It's positively astounding what a stone expert this man is in nearly every arena of endeavor known to man. We should all bare our heads and pull our forelocks when he graces us with his presence.

And no, civility is not among his accomplishments.
