I just saw a viagra ad on television. At the end in the "fine print" it said, "If your erection lasts more than four hours, call your doctor." What for? To brag?

The pharm company wants to figure out how to give every male a four hour hardon... I believe Hugh Hefner has a grant for it.

a longterm hardon is a symptom of a pathology (priapism), and can result in permanent damage (and impotence). if i may use a loose analogy, picture a woman's breast tightly bound at the base, so as to turn purple, and left it that way for a few hours--VERY dangerous.

it is so serious that in some cases a surgeon has to operate on a blood vessel and create a shunt.

i certainly have some memoriess in the 4-8 hour range. BUT upon reflection i recall two things: 1) at the end of the time, willie was decidedly less than perfectly hard, more rubbery. second, and i believe this is key, i bet there were breaks, e.g. partial wilts. given the young males ability to perk up in seconds, occasional wilts are hardly noticeable. these enable blood to 'turn over.'

a third point might be the TYPE of erection, and/or degree of inhibition of out flow. perhaps the "super" (but deadly) erections produced by viagra, trazodone, etc. have far more than the usual degree of stoppage of outflow. IOW the ordinary erection may have some minor drainage going on; hence there is some 'exchange', which as Obl point out is a key factor.

as to the viagra commercials, it's pretty clear that they don't want lawsuits. esp. covered in the newspapers: Joe Blow says, "I'm now permanently impotent--i.e. no more erectile capability-- because of the effect of Viagra."

i think long before the 'gangrene' possibility mentioned by Obl, is that the surgeons so after your willie with the knife and drain it properly, and make sure it always drains again, with alternate piping (veins for outflow). hence between the tissue damage and the new shunt for outflow, you've got a permanent limp willie.

From previous experience with naturally long lasting men, they are able to take small "breaks", which let the blood circulate and freshen up things.

Did someone ask all those women whether they *want* their men lasting four hours?

I wonder if anyone has published a story on that regard.

There are many a useful drug being recalled or severely restricted because of side effects. Viagra kills men who have advanced herat disease, but it still is available freely. Sometimes I feel their marketing is boldly appealing to healthy men with low self-confidence, whcih the drug does not cure.

Don't get me wrong. I am all for the right of free erections for all. The more the merrier.

But there are few places were one can observe a double standard more clearly than in this one.

I have often wondered about that 4 hour thingie, if maybe you call an ambulance so the paramedics can spray a water hose in between them to get him off her, I mean 2 or 3 hours, even 3 and a half hours maybe, but then you wanna get up and get a snack and a coke, maybe a cigarette break.

I was watching a commercial, or half watching it while I was getting a glass of tea. I think it was for a "erectile dysfuntion."

Anyways, picture an older couple, obviously not the highest paid actors around but pretending to be a married older couple with "erectile" problems.

The man says "with this I have more freedom when to have sex with-in eighteen hours."

I was wondering if the guy might wanna have sex, or on and off sex, for eighteen hours, should they write a traquilizer prescription for his wife also.

Apparently I was not the only one who wondered that, the older woman actress pretending to be his wife looked kinda scared.


I think some of these "super deadly erections" might be pretty bad for the woman involved also. Picture an old couple, 70 years old, the guy accidentally gets his viagra mixed up with his other medicines and takes 4 or 5. The lil ol lady wakes up later with a "deadly" erection banging away at her for hours, did the doctor who wrote the prescription examine her also?

I have had several men ask me this same question after watching those Viagra and Cialis commercials. it amazes me that more men don't seem to know about priapism and that it can do permanent serious damage.
