I've been in Iraq about a month now. I'm not going to be back home (California) for another 11 months, but while I'm here, I thought I'd try to find a few new friends, preferably the soft, sexy kind. If you're interested in chatting with someone overseas, send me a message.

hello

hello, I would love to chat with you and hopefully become chat friends

Cool! I'll send you a private message with my e-mail address. It may be easier to chat that way.
Karl

Thank you.

I am a guy, but wanted to thank you for what you are doing for our country. Thank you and God speed.

I'm going back Stateside eventually. At the very latest, it'll be around this time next year. Germany's a bit too chilly for this southern gal! Just need to either find a good job back there or really commit to going to get my master's. :)

That sounds like a good plan. What part of the South are you from? I don't really like the cold, either. I prefer to be where it's warm, like California. It's cool in Iraq right now, but I'm not looking forward to the summer. Given a choice, I'd take the temperature it is right now.

Texas, Georgia, South Carolina.... take your pick. Growing up an Army brat makes it hard to answer that question! I probably act more like a Texan than anything, though, since that's where I spent the longest time consecutively, and went to college. Yeah, I've heard it's cooling down quite a bit there. I have some friends who got there this summer and are now freezing after getting used to it being so hot.

I suppose I'd take Texas over South Carolina or Georgia, but I guess that would depend on what part of Texas. I don't think I would want to be out at Fort Bliss, but I wouldn't mind Fort Hood so much.

It's supposed to stay this cool for at least another month, but I'm hoping for longer. I'm just glad they have air-conditioning in most places, but that's not going to help when I have to be outside.

Just don't work that AC too much and break it! That would really suck to have to go without. Sad fact: I've been in Germany a year and a half, and do not live or work in a place that has AC. The first time I went into the health clinic, it startled me because they have it and it was on.

And you're right, Ft. Bliss is nasty crap. Ft. Hood is decent. Really close to Austin, Houston, San Antonio, and DFW. I enjoyed it. :)

That's true. The AC in my office broke in November, but they had it fixed fairly quickly. Luckily, it wasn't very hot then. Sorry to hear you don't have AC there! My room has AC. I don't think it would be very pleasant without it.

Yeah, all the cities close to Ft. Hood make it nice and convenient, especially 6th Street in Austin. That place is a lot of fun.

Well, there are only a few times during the summer you need it, so fans work out pretty well for the most part, along with open windows. It's the winter I still can't deal with, even though this is my second here. Brrrrr!

You know, I went to college at Texas A&M, but still never made it to 6th street. It's definitely something I'm going to have to do when I go back to visit! Spent most of my off time out in Dallas.... I love that city!

6th street is not as much fun as it used to be. I remember it back before it turned into the tourist trap it is today, plus with the city pissin off alot of the smokers around with the smoking ordinance, and now the sound ordinance starting to pickup steam again...its more of going there and being told you can't be loud and you can't smoke...

How cold is it there now? I'm sure you have to stay bundled up. Here, it's just a little chilly, but cool enough to wear a jacket at night.

I like the bars on 6th Street, and of course, Austin is known for the music scene. I'm going to have to visit there when I get back to the states, but that's still a while away.

I'm not a smoker, so I don't have a problem with going to bars that don't allow smoking. Bars in California have been smoke-free for over 10 years. I like them a lot better without all the smoke. It's a noticable difference when I go somewhere that allows smoking indoors.

Smoking was one of the big reasons I stayed away from large bar districts. They banned smoking on 6th street right before I graduated, so I didn't have much time to visit. Supposedly as of Jan. 1 all the bars here will be smoke-free, too! Can't wait! I hate coming home reaking of smoke and with a bit of a headache from it.

I don't mind the smoke when I'm there in the bar and drinking beer, but I hate the way the smell stays with me after I leave. The smell stays in my clothes. I have to wash anything I wear to a smokey bar or the smell just bothers me.

I don't have anything againsts smokers, either, but given a choice, I'll go to the smoke-free environment.

they banned it, repealed it then banned it again....atleast austin has it banned, but you get outside of Austin (into Round Rock and a few other suburbs) and they still allow it in the bars, which sucks....I came home tonight reeking of it....

Just wanted to give you a bump and say thank you for what you are doing and if you are ever short on people to talk to drop me a line sometime if you want....

Austin is a pretty nice city, but it has to be tough if you want to go to a bar in the summer and you have to go outside to smoke.

Do you have a long delay on the phone when you are calling home? I was talking to someone in Iraq the other day and he wouldn't answer right away, so I kept repeating" hello, are you there?" and he fianlly just said "stop speaking, there is a delay!"
Kind of a weird conversation to tell the truth! Do you hate that?

Yeah, there's a bit of a delay. It's long enough that when there's a short pause and I start to talk, by the time the person on the other end hears me, he/she's already starting to talk, so the conversations get to be a little stretched out if each person is trying not to interrupt the other one. It's like watching a news show where one person is getting a satellite feed, so there's a delay. Plus, there's usually a lot of static on the line, not while it's ringing, but after it connects.

The whole ban-repeal deal has been going on here for the last year, too. But THIS time, it's supposed to be enforced, so we'll just have to wait and see. I have pretty long and thick hair, so it really bugs me when I have to spend like 30 minutes washing it later just trying to get the smoke smell out again.
