I submitted the first couple parts of my story like a week ago... it said they would take 2-3 days to be reviewed, so I was wondering why they havent been posted? does it usually take longer then a week?

The actual posting time is closer to 7-10 days; could be longer if there's a contest running (there's one at the moment, the Holiday Contest) and should be ever longer now that you've asked THE question. :eek:

If you want it to be quicker you have to send a SASE with your name, address, phone number, social security number, bank account and credit card number to the "Jenny Jackson answering question fund". As soon as Miss Jackson gets all your infos she'll send you a note to let you know she's emptied your bank account and maxed out your credit card. Then, and only then will your story be posted. :D

I am so glad you asked that question. The answer is somewhat convoluted but I will try my best.

Assuming you are an established writer on Lit, the time frame is, say 3 to 5 days.

If you are a newbie and have submitted a story then patiently waited for it to post you would find that it would be something between 5 to 8 days.

However, you do not fit in either catagory. I'm sorry to say, you now fall into the "Default - Newbie" catagory where the rules are quite different. The moment you pressed <Enter> and posted your question your story was pulled from the line and your world changed forever. Rather than waiting a week or so, now you have to make additional submissions in order to get your story back in the que to be posted.

This is what you will need:
1) A certified copy of your driver's licence (With Picture)
2) Three noterized letters from friends and family stating that you are, indeed, the person on your drivers license.
3) Proof of where you were on 9/11. (Hotel or resturaunt receipts, etc are acceptable)
4) Grade School, High School and College Transcripts
5) A promise, written in blood (yours) stating you will never ask the "QUESTION" ever again as long as you live.

Upon receipt of all the above your story will be placed in the "B" que for posting. I'm happy to say you will see it posted sometime in late January - 2012.
Have a nice day :)

Hail MathGirl!

She was the grand master of answering the "QUESTION". I'm only a lowly follower in her great footsteps.

:D

I am a new newbie poster. I submitted part 1 of my story then after I had my editor read it I made some changes and re-submitted part 1 and I submitted part 2 shortly after...

I am going to assume that your posts were sarcasm, but I was just asking politely how long I should expect to wait. If it is closer to 2-3 weeks then thats fine, I just saw on the page it said 2-3 days, so I was just wondering if it was rejected or there was something else I forgot about.

//EDIT

also you said something about a contest going on at the moment? can one of you direct me to the rules? I might possibly want to get it if the deadline hasn't passed

A point to note on resubmissions. The clock starts back at the beginning each time you resubmit--so it should be 7-10 days from the last time you submitted the story before it posts, if it's going to post. If it's been reviewed and been rejected, the rejection will be noted on your submissions page and you'll get at least a bit of explanation why. If you fix what it was rejected for, you can repost (and the clock starts at the beginning again).

The contest now going is the Winter Holiday Story Contest. On the home page of this site, there is reference to the current contest (in blue font, I think) and links you can click to for both the contest rules and the list of stories already entered. The deadline for entering this particular contest is 7 December--but there's a minimum number of votes your story has to gather to qualify for the contest, so the earlier you submit a story the better. These stories are typically being posted within a day or two of submission--they are given priority in the review.

How come you're all having fun without me here?

Just one day I'm not here, and alas, the Question is asked.

:rolleyes:

Thank You for the clarification

Apparently I am not well liked in the approval department, my stories always take a week and a half to two weeks. :eek:

Well except Photo Shoot, that one was three weeks and alot of reads before they accepted it. Not real sure why it I don't think danced on the line of inappropiate.

Anyway, just be patient they will get to your stories eventually. Of course since you did ask the question, they will have pushed you to the back and will take even longer. :p

Not really but well when in Rome. ;)

Poems get approved the fastest. Anything with pictures takes a long time, and audio will usually take even longer.

I actually don't mind the long time until approval. It gets the anticipation going :D

Damn... I forgot about the required bribe :(

You also forgot that they must either send in their first born child, or if childless, a signed and notarized promissory document promising said first child when it is born.

Oh how I miss MathGirl!

To quote some of her more famous responses:
"Usually three to five days. Up to a week if the editor's bleeding piles are acting up."
"Usually three to five days. May take up to a week if the story contains sex with sheep or renting of pigs."
" Usually three to five days. Sometimes as long as a week if the editor is out chasing cats again."
"Usually three to five days. Sometimes up to a week if the editor has committed ritual sepuku."

And to show she won't mind:
" I would be SO pleased if someone liked my stuff enough to steal it."

Not quite my experience.... and ??

Though I've had a few stories approved in as LITTLE as 5 days, I've also had to wait over FOUR WEEKS for some. Curiously, I've seen what I suppose are the editor peeks, 2 to 8, stay unchanged for weeks before getting published or rejected. Any idea why that would be?

Why do 'illustrated' take longer? I'm preparing one now and am curious about restriction on the pix. Can I use publicly available pictures as is, or must I disguise faces?

Now I'll go back to admiring your beautiful boo... umm, avatar. :devil:

Illustrated and audio take longer because they require some special work when they're put on the site, so the editors do them a whole batch at once - and it may take a while until enough accumulate. It's probably just too much effort to put those stories into the regular queue and do them one at a time.

Obviously, it's possible that you get lucky and submit an audio story just a few days before they put up a new batch, so it will get approved fast.

The rules for illustrated submissions are as follows:

I want to submit an illustrated story. What are the guidelines? How do I submit my artwork?

We love to receive stories with complementing photos or artwork.

For Photographs: Legally, we can allow soft nudity in photographs, but under current United States law, photographs posted on this site may not contain "sexually explicit conduct", which the government defines as:

- Actual or simulated:
(A) sexual intercourse, including genital-genital, oral-genital, anal-genital, or oral-anal, whether between persons of the same or opposite sex;
(B) bestiality;
(C) masturbation;
(D) sadistic or masochistic abuse; or
(E) lascivious exhibition of the genitals or pubic area of any person.

All artwork - including drawings, paintings, and photographs - must also comply with these rules:

- All persons in the image must be over 18 years of age.
- Image must not contain a URL or other advertisement.
- Image must be no more than 320 pixels wide, 240 pixels high, and under 40k in size. (Note: we will size the image to fit if we are able to do so. However, if we are unable to shrink the image, you will need to resubmit.)
- Photos must be your original work - i.e. photographs that you yourself took, or paintings or drawings that you yourself created.

If your image does not meet all of the above requirements, your submission will not be posted. In that case, please resubmit with images which meet our criteria.

Pictures? Volunteers?

Ouch! If disguised faces aren't good enough, I'll have to skip the E/V photos I chose in fast food places. ....Unless there are some volunteers that are willing to pose for me in Wendy's or MacD? I have 4 photos in mind. Just one volunteer will do.... :rose: PM me with a photo if interested. :cattail:

Thanks for the word Jen.
