Yes, Virginia, there is a December poetry contest. It's an official Literotica Poetry Forum December Contest in that a prize will be awarded the winner by our benevolent site owners, Laurel and Manu. No, it will not be a new car or an all-expense-paid week in Las Vegas (or wherever), but if you win it'll be all yours.

The theme is December. That's it. Write a poem about December. Many of you have already said things December means for you, so there's a thread-worth of ideas to tickle your muse. If nothing there strikes you, come up with something else.

Form or free verse is fine. No restrictions on length. No illustrated or multimedia submissions, just your words. One poem per poet. If you have alts, be honest and submit one poem under one name. :)

The poem that receives the most votes wins. All submissions should be pm'd to The Poets (that's Eve, Lauren, and me) by midnight PST on December 15, 2007. Each entry will be assigned a number and posted by number in a thread, so no one will know the authors (unless you snitch to each other).

Voting will take place via pm to The Poets. You must vote by midnight PST December 20, 2007 for your vote to be counted.

The top three vote-getters will then be posted in a finals round (we love to drag these things out) in which only those who submitted poems to the contest may vote. Final votes must be submitted by midnight PST, December 23, 2007.

Eve, Lauren and I will not submit poems and we won't vote unless there's a tie in the finals round. If that happens, the three of us will vote on the tied poems. The winner will be announced on December 24.

If you have any questions, you can pm The Poets or ask in this thread. All submissions should be pm'd to The Poets. Remember, do not post your entry here. We'll keep you updated with information in this thread, too.

Eve has promised to write a poem about dildos no matter what. She hates to disappoint.

Good luck and have fun! It's all about the poetry.

There are currently four entries in for the contest. Eight days to go to get your poems in. :)

I'm in. Not sure if the PM will retain my intense formatting, so if it all seems justified to the left, let me know and I can screencap it and attach a jpeg :)

If you send your entry with codes, it should be ok. :)

There are now Five poems entered in the contest. Keep them coming!

Here's a tip if you want to play with spacing in your poem. You have to insert space (like this ___________) and then color it white (like this ______________) to get the spacing you want. Other codes don't show up when you send your poems in. And we don't want image files so we can more easily keep things anonymous.

Feel free to post here or pm if you have any questions about this.

Just ignore all my messages and I'll mess about with code some more.
I gotta get over this whole "creative spacing" thing :)

It's a bitch, I know. The white thingy really works, though.

There are nine poems entered in the contest as of this morning. PM your entry to The Poets by midnight, PST on Saturday, December 15.

Is the 15th when they will be shown for voting? because I go away from the 18th to the 21st.

We stop taking entries at midnight Pacific Standard Time on 12/15 (well 11:59 I guess since technically midnight will be the 16th). The poems will be posted for first-round voting from the 16th until the 20th. Then the top three vote-getters will be reposted in a finals round from the 21st-23rd. Ergo, you will be around to vote during both the first and final rounds. :)

There are 13 poems entered in the contest so far. You have until midnight PST this Saturday to submit them. :rose:

SILLY questions

If voting takes place by pm -- not by assigning a score of 1 to 5 as we do in story contests -- can you say more about how that works?

Do we rank-order the poems, i.e. 1st, 2nd, 3rd?, or do we give each a score on a scale of 1-5?

Is voting for oneself Right Out?

I'm working on a poem ... & as usual .... I'm L8.

Thanks, Moderatinas.

There are now 15 poems entered in the December Contest. You have until 11:59 PM tonight, Pacific Standard Time to submit your entries.

l8bloom, it's not a silly question at all. Here's how we'll do it: Tomorrow all poems will be posted in polls (3-5 polls is my guess, but it depends on the total number we have at the deadline--we don't post more than six poems in one poll. Folks will be asked to vote for their favorite poem in each poll. So if, for example, we end up with 18 poems there would be three polls with six poems in each one. You would choose the poem you like best in Poll 1, Poll 2, Poll 3. Each poem will be assigned a number and they'll be posted in the order they were received (so the first poem we got will be Poem 1 in Poll 1; the seventh poem we received (based on the "18" example) would be Poem 1 in Poll 2. The top vote getter in each poll will go on to the finals round. Voting in the finals round will be restricted to the people who wrote poems for the contest, and they will vote by pming their choice for favorite of the finalists to The Poets. If that voting results in a tie, then (and only then) will the moderators vote to break the tie and obtain a winner.

Hope that helps. If you (or anyone) has more questions, post them in this thread or pm them to The Poets. We're checking The Poets account twice a day for questions and to accept new entries.

So we have around six hours to go and there are 24 poems entered. Some great poems; it'll be a good contest. :)

Thanks to all who have sent entries in so far and to those who are planning to send theirs tonight.

Remember that if your poem has special spacing requirements, you need to use a white line (like this: ____________) from the beginning of your line to the space where you want type to begin.

Example:

___________________I think I'll
________________________start
________________________here.

If you send in a poem with spacing but without the white lines indicated, we'll do our best to recreate what you sent.

Good luck everyone. :rose:

Looking for the polls

Will they be located in the PF&D forum? Could someone post a link to them at the top of this thread?
