Consolation round.
Abandoned teams - Intra-season, teams will be considered abandoned if its manager doesn't sign into the League's Yahoo page for a full calendar month AND does not respond to any of my three PMs/emails. Once a team is considered abandoned, its players will be benched and its roster locked. Its manager will also not be invited back the following season without a damn good reason.
Inter-season: see deadlines and note that abandoned rosters will have its players re-enter the FA pool. As an example, T.O. will be sent to the FA pool at the end of the season and LT's roster is locked for the duration of the playoffs.
You have draft order for next year on the first post right?
No, I haven't posted it yet, but here's my thinking to date. Feedback is welcome.
Select the three players with the highest productivity on each of the teams departing and assign them "keeper" status. That way, they won't have to make up their three player deficit. Have a normal draft.

I like this ... but how do they assign which new player gets which keeper player from the small keeper pool if there is more than one team leaving? Say LT and I both leave... my top productive players are not nearly as good as LT's are on the whole. But I like that draft order in reverse order of the last years standings.
Not saying create a keeper pool--just keep keepers on a team. If, for example, you decide to leave......then the top three point scorers on your team are kept on a team with no owner. Whoever joins gets one of the non-owned teams. First come first choice.
That's a great idea. The Commish decides the keepers for the abandoned teams. Then the draft order is strictly based on the whatever formula you come up with in terms of the previous season.
Don't just make it strictly the top three point scorers. A team could easily have a kicker or defense sneak in there. Choose the three most logical players.
Ah, but not everyone has the same logic.
So what?
The final choice rests with the Commish. And we all will know if you're not making a real effort to pick good keepers. It will be obvious. Like if my team was abandoned and you let Romo and Jones-Drew go back into the draft and kept Garrard and Dunn.
It would be rather obvious. And here's an example. Say an abandoned team has Reggie Bush. He hasn't had the greatest year. And he's hurt. There's a good chance he won't be a top three scorer on the team that has him. But most managers would keep him based on his potential and talent.
The important thing is to keep the integrity of the league in tact but having roster continuity for all the teams and then finding new managers to take over the teams that have been abandoned.
Why not keep it simple and let whoever gets team decide which 3 keepers he or she wants?
Yeah. Of course. I thought that went without saying, provided the managers are in place before the Keeper deadline.
Why does that go without saying? You guys are discussing the commish selecting the keeper players for the folks taking over teams and what the criteria should be.
It went without saying to me. I figured if the Commish finds a new manager for an abandoned team tonight, they will take over and figure out who to keep themselves.
But if new managers aren't found and the deadline comes, the commish will make the decision and the new managers will have to live with the keepers they inherit.
Why not keep it simple and let whoever gets team decide which 3 keepers he or she wants?
No problem, but then why move them to the head of the line on draft day?

Don't move them to the head of the line.
They're taking over a team. As far as I'm concerned we're all equal.
wow i didnt notice this till now
wish i had joined, in my other league i drafted adrian peterson in the 5th round or something, best decision ever
not a keeper league though![]()
They won't be taking over a team with players on it. In essence, the old, abandoned team will be deleted and a new, empty team will be created.
The draft is about choice, and we all had the choice as to whom to draft. Next year's draft should give new owners that same choice, otherwise, the system penalizes them for not being part of the first draft. For example, Lasher selected Willie Parker with the third pick. If you look at the pre-draft rankings, Parker wasn't in the Top-25. Lasher chose to pick him up at #3.
Selecting three players for someone else removes that choice. For example, let's say Rimmy doesn't come back next year. His keepers would be Hasselbeck, Peterson and Roy Williams....but then you look at Ryan Grant, who has become a stud in GB. What if the new owner wanted to punt Williams and keep Grant? Why take that choice away from him/her?
If somebody takes over a team. They can decide what keepers to take forward. The keeper deadline is a few months away right?
