Alright, I've gotta see some action around here. So I invented a thing. Here is this thing.

Beyond a basic gunfight, this Shootout at the OK Corral Challenge requires two teams of three poets each. One poet will volunteer to work in "form poetry", one in "free verse" and the third poet may choose any format.

The requirements for the poems will be announced once the volunteers have stepped up, and final "shots" will be fired at High Noon (Time Zone TBA) within 36 to 48 hours of the announcement of the topic. We'll see what sort of timing makes sense when we get there. Figure you'll have two days, at the absolute max. Maybe less.

I will choose the requirements, which may be a title, a subject, or something entirely else. I don't know who will judge this. Not good at figuring that out. Perhaps the mods have suggestions. (yeah, yeah, I know. I mean suggestions about the judging).

I know it's mixing periods, but our two teams will be the Hatfields and the Joads, mostly because it amuses me vastly to think about that. So step up. It'll be constructive activity and a little friendly competition and stuff like that.

I will root fiercely for you all in a very short cheerleader outfit. Or maybe a saloon girl thing. Whatever it takes.

I either need a drink or need to wait till my brain refills with cells in order to follow all-a that. I 'll go sit on a tumble weed and cheer while I blow down the road.

I will admit I am secretly just here to hug on Bijou.

plenty of time for all of the above. I expect it'll be a few days before we get our buns rotatin' on this. But it's worth a try.

o hai! wanna join my secret club?

Oh! I am all for secret clubs as long as membership is based on extreme weirdness and lack of socially accepted standards.

I'm in O mustachioed one. I'll be a Joad. A form-writing Joad (just please God not a sestina; they're so effing difficult to write). I'm def not a Hatfield; I do know that. Personally I would have been more comfortable with like the Hatfields and the Goldblatts, but ok. Joad. Just call me Iambic Joad, m'am. :D

Oh. Judging. Judging sucks, huh? We could do a poll. I'll set it up for you when it's time to vote if you don't know how to do it. Let me know.

Excuse me? I'm from the eastern branch of the Joads. The Joadhens? From the Bronx? We only write schmyku.

Lol! Think Bijou is starting to rethink what she has got herself into? Managing an unruly herd of mad poets? ;)

Not at all! I do love me an unruly herd of mad poets, truly I do. It's what I was hopin' for.

I hadn't thought to actually assign a form to the form volunteers. They may choose ANY form they like, so long as it's clearly in form of some sort.

Okay well, here's the show so far. Really, the two toughest positions have now been filled - Form Hombre for the Joads is Angeline, and for the Hatfields is Champagne. I believe DeepAsleep has volunteered to be a dog, but he hasn't said which family's porch he wants to sleep under, nor whether or not he's a free verse or a wild card dog.

So this feud still needs a few distant cousins to fill out the families.

I think a poll is the way to go for the judging. Anybody got a problem with that? (she said, fingertips lightly fondling the pearl-handled revolver in her holster)...

Just wondering if "...pearl-handled revolver..." is code for um, something else...it affects whether or not I would like to make you draw or not.

What is the wild card? Wild card poet writes whatever he/she wants? As to form or free verse?

And is there a title assigned?

Inquiring minds and all. :)

Wild card may write in either form or free verse.

I will make the specific assignment when all the volunteers have gathered. It may be a title, or a theme, or even the use of a specific word or phrase. Depends on how evil I'm feeling at that point.

I have a number of ideas.

Um, free-verse gunslinger for hire? Send me where I'm needed.

That reminds me, I need to buy some more rounds for the revolvers.

I thought them things re-loaded on their own...

PS I am not just here to be a pain in the ass. I'll do whatever ya want BJ Ma'am.

I need two more people to be Joads. Ahem. And I already took the form part because everyone else hates that. And we write so well together.

'kay Doll. I don't know why I'm such an easy mark for you. But I want to be the wildcard. Never know when the need for form and function will seduce me. Or when I want to mix the two.

They only reload themselves in the movies. That is assuming that you want to reload them after the recoil. Had some friends that after one shot, handed me the gun back and gave me a dirty look.

Ooooh. You were talking about actual guns. I see. Carry on.
