I used to be heavily into auto/biographies, not so much of late, but still some stand out in my mind as being good etierh because they were intereting or exceptional stories of another's life. Thought it might be interesting for those with similar likes if we had a thread where we could share them.

For me, 2 which stand out are :

'Sorrow Mountain' by Ani Pachen and Adelaide Donnelley - is the story of Ani, a Tibetan warrior nun beginning from when she was the daughter of a Tibetan chief during the years of the Chinese invasion of Tibet. It tells of her life as a warrior fighting against the invaders, and her subsequent imprisonment for 21 years before release and then escape over the Himilayas to India and her long dreamed of meeting the Dalai Lama. It is an outstanding read.

The second is 'Cave in The Snow' by Vicki Mackenzie - story of an english woman who travelled to Tibet and in the mid '70's began a 12 year retreat alone in a cave 13,000 feet high in The Himilayas. Another interesting and outstanding read.

Howard Stern --Talk show host who barely made a living in the 80s.. turned multi millionare soon to be billionaire i would bet.. famous for refusing to conform to rules and codes of behavior for radio, basically He ROCKS.

Jenna Jameson -- famous porn star .. i posted her blow job tips here on a thread someplace (Ten Commandments of Oral or BJs?? I think)

Reading Jenna gave me some new 'oral techniques' that rock.

Reading Howard has me hooked. His 'wack pack' people are facinating (one well known, Hank the Angry Dwarf.. lived in my home town.. alkie, when I just hit 21 and was checking bars and clubs in twon, we did Karoake in the same place a lot... blocks fom where I grew up.). Listen to him now on Sirius and watch him on cable's 'On Demand' here (on HBO .. which we subscribe to anyway ... to watch BIG LOVE ... love that show too).

Bleh, off the top of my head, I can't think of any real autobiographies I've read lately. But one of my favorite books is The Bell Jar by Sylvia Plath, and it's pretty well-known that it's a somewhat fictionalized account of Plath's younger years in an asylum. Captivating author.

I recently did papers on two of my favorite poets, John Donne and Sir Phillip Sidney. I got to read lots of autobiographical things about both of them, and I got to see how their lives were entwined with their work. Donne was at once a perv and a preacher. Sidney was unrequited lover and a courtier. Both of them are quite fascinating as well.

(I realize I'm not naming books, and I'm sorry. I just can't remember the names of any of the things I read! Besides, most of the information was kind of dry and academic and probably only interesting to people who really like these writers.)
