Erm, since when was Lit a democracy? It's a message board. The board's owner could pull the plug tomorrow and we'd have fuck-all we could do about it. The mods could be cock-knobs and all we could do is complain to the owners, or walk. Where is the democracy?

And is this a democratic vote? Hell, no. It's a tallying of opinions. There's no issue to be decided here. It's people either bitching or supporting or not caring. It's a popularity contest at its' most basic, with the exception that this one requires people to own their opinions.
