I am doing a lil research for a write and I am looking for ways of expressing 'AMBITION'

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Ambition: the desire to achieve a goal.
"Ambition without knowledge is like a boat in the desert"
The Tiger does not have the ambition to kill, it simply means to survive.
Ambition is a poor excuse for not having the good sense to do nothing.
He was ambitious with out a direction.
Perhaps ugliness springs from ambition (…) The quality of children's art is that it defies all the annoying artistic ambitions held by most adults; the sorts of ambitions that turn art into making a career, or a self-serving, egotistical expression far removed from acts of creation inspired entirely by nature.
Given that refinement has no bearing on ambition, refinement must be immutable, or at least perpetual in the context of ambition. The disunity of ambition and refinement cannot be possible.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

any others? <grin

Well, maybe

As an extension or a branch of pride? A need and a desire to become more important in other peoples lives even if they have no desire to have you there. To elevate your personal value above the average person. To acguire more titles and goods than is neccessary? A type A personality, trying to make a type B personality seem obsequious? Highly talented socially and gregarious to those who can make him more important in the feild sought after.

As if you can't tell, I am not impressed with an ambitious person. Mainly because they seem to enjoy leaving me in the lurch. And they have never done a decent days work. They just gab their way into promotions. And those of us who do the work, are always being reviewed negatively. I wish I could just talk my way out of trouble.

Define "ambition".

Just by itself, it's a diverse word. On one side, we have the softer side of ambition, a positive controlling idea. The wish and will to excel and improve. Which is good. If we didn't have that, we'd be a hoard of apathetic couch potatos. Or screw that, we wouldn't have couches.

On the other hand we have the Shakespeare's Caesar idea of ambition. (Yet Brutus says he was ambitious. And Brutus is an honourable man, yadda yadda...) Seems to be the same one TMV associates with the word. Meaning something like greed for success and glory. Which is bad. In my native tongue we don't even call that ambition, but literally "greed".

ambitious enough
to smoke outside in
seventeen degrees weather.

ambitious enough
to have another child
after a miscarriage.

ambitious enough
to leave with practically no money
no place to go
with three children to care for.

ambitious enough
to have five jobs in four months
due to three sick children,
and still go get another job.

ambitious enough
to work six
even seven days a week
to keep the bills paid
and children happy.

ambitious enough
to loose at love
again and again
and still
have hope.

ambition, honor
pride and love.
all are tied together
one connects the other
completing the circle ...

Hits way close to home my friend, I know a bit stoic eh ~
Just a thought that had to be expressed.
Might give ya something to run with on your article ~

Damn! did you mean to come across mean? we are all just feeling our way through - is that not ambitious enough to try to fly even if you risk crash - ? -eventually you may get it right. we all want to soar - but we never will if we do not try.

ambition is screaming toward the finish line despite bloodied feet
ambition is never saying 'i quit' because then, its failure.

sigh*

I like that <grin... ambition...

Don't fret... the disgruntled 1201-snail-anon and other names (his alias's)
his ambition is to get under other's skin.
I like the saying that 'others can not drive you crazy unless you give them the keys.' I won't give them to him (again) <grin...

jealous bones may riddle his ambitions (~_~) like my mother always says, 'kill'em with kindness for even a dog has the right to bark'

why this post by you?

because the newcomer doesn’t know the history between you two, so you politic and try to turn her against him?

always, Art, you showcase the cozy, faux leather seats of hypocrisy like a used car salesman.

To be fair, though I have benefitted much from MNS's criticism, I would think his sarcasm probably does turn some people off whether or not anyone else politics against him, and honestly, it doesn't seem that he cares. I also don't think that Art has been the only person in his sights (well a quick read of his poem in the poetry circle shows that, I'd say). It took me awhile to realize that MNS was trying to do something good here, because I was put off by tone.

I welcome what MNS has to say to me perhaps because he doesn't seem angry at me when he says it. Well, so far. :) In fact, his criticism was something he really put thought and effort into. He made me think a bit about reader experience approaching my poems. I really appreciate that. I'd count myself lucky if he criticized my work and have actively sought his feedback because he wants poets to work hard and get better.

MNS is very smart and passionate about his vision of what this site should be (a vision I think I agree with from what I can figure: a place where honest criticism is fairly given and received and where people grow their talents). He was also 'big' enough to congratulate Art on a well written poem awhile back, despite their differences, (as was Rainman).

Bless you, Rainman, for the beautiful poems you write and honest criticism you give. And Art, I've always appreciated how kind you are to new writers, reading and commenting on everything. Maybe there is room in this world for more than one approach? I'll cross my fingers for that.

how easily you forget..., I have not been the only bullseye for the snail, remember his pm attacks on Du Lac, Quasar ... who left Lit to avoid his verbal assaults? his rudeness with eve, bla bla bla, I see you see this as you like (~_~)

look who's politicking

I call it like I see it, the man post negativity on my thread, attacking me verbally and you say I am a hypocrite for this... is that just some way for you to throw another one of your smirking slander remarks as well?

where's Anna!

thank you cherry, I think the world (and threads) are big enough for all and each can learn from one another. (~_~) I just choose not to waddle through the negative criticism in order to weed out what I can learn from, if possible.

i said you are a hypocrite for telling HotKittySpank that you kill people with kindness, even quoting your mother, thereby sanctifying it, only seconds after you tore a person down in the same post – you do one thing, and claim you live by the opposite.

that is the definition of hypocrisy.

and all the Snail did was point out another hypocritical moment of yours, suggesting you practice what you preach ( Ambition without knowledge is like a boat in the desert), and acquire a bit of knowledge, about poetry it can be assumed.

neither anna nor i ever slander you. we just call you to task when you show your hypocrisy.

nor does 1201/anonamouse/Snail slander you. it just bothers him when you flaunt mediocrity like a medal.

oh dear, oh dear...

i feel as though i should never had said a thing... i hate this.
i want to learn, not be barked at or made to feel ashamed.
(for future reference, if you wish to criticize 'me' please do so with the understanding that i will run and hide if you are mean. think constructive not destructive.)

oh - i am so sorry everyone - yesterday i was riding high soaking up sun in the breezeway - speaking just to speak.

shit, and i'm sorry also to this Snail person (?) - if i offended you - truely sorry - you have every right to speak as you wish.

make nice now.

Hey HotKittySpank,
You are sweet to apologize, but really, the interactions are not due to anything you have done. This is just more of the same and you jumped in the middle (many of us have been there) Don't take anything personally or get caught up in the craziness :)

Just my opinion, of course :)

Just pay it never no mind, dear. These things break out every once in a while and either upset or bore people based on their temperment. Trust me, it's better to be bored than upset. If you ignore it, it eventually goes away. :)

I am not sure why you were concerned about my wherabouts, I will not make any presumptions. Maybe you were looking to ask me how I like this Texas heat.

Well well well, neighbor MET: I sometimes try to imagine you as some character from a satire, like South Park, so over the top that your flaws are magnified to the point of absurdity, and it is humorous. I mean, how could you really be for real? If you were a superhero, I think you would be Contradiction Man! :)

I too think we can all learn from each other. In fact, I learn from you in the philosophy of "what NOT to do" You give such good examples!

ps is the false accusation of slander, slander?
pps I think in order for something to be slander, it has to be false? For example, it would not be slander to call a rock a rock, would it?

Peace,

~Anna

where has your kindness been? I am not asking about anything anyone anywhere else ever in any point of time. Just show me your example of being "kind."

taking notes from the teacher: do not call someone disgruntled, jealous, etc in the name of kindness. Referring to them as a dog and slanderous is also a bad idea.

When reading some of these ~threads~, I sometimes try to imagine what would Brian Boitano do. It helps. :D

That was my ex's advice from Judge Barstad. Then he looked at me and gave her a restraining order. Grrr.
