I love it when reality disproves some of the cultists we have here.

There is a number of people who often engage in deep speculation about the way Laurel handles submissions. Just yesterday someone was very confident that there's no way that any story gets published without Laurel laying her eyes on it and skimming through it with some critical word highlighter.

I am sure they will now claim that they were right, and that slips like this one just happen.

No, it’s an ad by a user with the exact same name as the site. It’s not tied to Lit in any way.

Best case scenario, something that was supposed to get binned went into the wrong queue because Laurel fat-fingered a button. Worst case, it’s not Laurel moderating anymore and whoever is moderating is just going “did the AI detector go off? No? Ship it!”

I wasn't implying that it's Lit doing the advertising: I meant that Lit allowed another site to publish an ad under the guise of it being a story. Presumably in exchange for payment.

Once again, it comes down to whether everything should be allowed in fiction. And I'm not entirely sure where I stand on the topic. I value freedoms too much. But some stuff is also quite despicable. I don't know.

I think the big difference is that BNWO has no basis in real life, while ICE acting like a bunch of Brownshirt thugs is… *vague gestures at basically everything going on in the US.*

Freedom to say something is very different from being given the privilege to publish on a site, and racist hate-speech pretending to be a story, on a site that explicitly forbids racist hate speech can’t be right
