I could use some advice here.

I've submitted a story, much like I have all my other ones, and it got sent back with:

The text is coming through on our end with odd characters sprinkled throughout the text. If this is being encoded/written in software that is made for a language other than English, please let us know what software and language you are using, and we will try to figure out what is going wrong. Thank you!

So, I pasted it into Notepad (which strips all formatting), pasted it back into Literotica and re-submitted.

Got bounced again. This seems like an almost automatic thing, as it happened less than 24hrs after submission.

The only thing I've added back in is the italic <i> HTML bits. Would that be triggering it?

There are some things maybe going on with HTML right now.

Do you write in the text editor? Maybe try putting it in a docx and uploading that. Do you see any oddities in Preview?

Could be.

Elsewhere in the last 24 - 48 hours there's been an issue with incorrect rendering of html. It's a glitch in existing stories which could also apply to new submissions. I'd suggest stripping all html from your input, to see if you get past whatever filter is triggering the rejection. No guarantee, but it might work.

I've just typed a note to the admin and noticed that it's turning " into &quot; when I save the draft, so I think there's a bug in their code. If that's the case, it may be turning all quotations in my story into &quot;'s. I may submit through attachment, which I haven't done to date, so I'm a bit reluctant.

Google Docs generally - never been an issue before now.

Thanks, I might try that or a attachment submission.

That's a separate bug which has been longstanding for, well, very long now. What you're describing seems new, though, and similar to the report that Literotica sometimes renders opening angle brackets as \x3C (hex for <) instead of interpreting the HTML correctly.

Somewhere in the processing pipeline, a piece of duct tape has clearly come off.

It's definitely new, as several of my stories in the past have incorporated the <i> </i> function without issue.

It's probably not the <I> tags.

There are ways to get non-printing characters into text accidentally and I don't think Notepad strips them automatically. I'm not a windows person, so I can't check right now.

How long is the story?

RTF is the most reliable way to submit here and have it as you wrote it. Most of us aren't HTML experts and I, for one, don't intened to be.

It sounds now like the center bug exists no matter how you uploaded your story. Someone is reporting the exact same symptoms when they used centering in MS word. I have always assumed that all formats end up in a similar standardized form in their database, regardless of submission type.

Allowing people to submit in the different formats is one of the things the site did well. I avoid MS products and word is notoriously inconsistent about how it renders and finicky about other tools converting to .docx

If your wrote it in something like Word, it may have special hidden characters in it. Save it as RTF(you already did that), Download Notepad++ and select View/Show Symbols/Show All Characters. It will show you what you can't see - most of the time.

From now on I'll make sure my stories contain an even number of characters (in either sense).
