The AH Coffee Shop and Reading Room 09

I'd planned a quiet steak grilled outdoors for Thanksgiving. It rained. Steak under the broiler instead. Pity. I missed the savory wood-grilled flavor.

The house was quiet again, yesterday—just me and Buddy for the afternoon. Though a neighbor did come and check on me... someone was thoughtful and brought a turkey plate. Perhaps that dinner today.

Bless America. May she yet rise and shine from its current state of despair. [For all those football teams that lost and politicians, too.]

CK! Lobos beat San Diego State in the second overtime. Fans stormed the field!

If Utah State beats Boise State (Utah State currently leads in the 4th quarter) the Lobos will host the Mountain West Championship game. The details are still up in the air.

I struggle with fanfiction and Im not sure why. Maybe it feels too much like writing real people? I've tried a few times and it just peters out.
Don't worry about it. I LOVE writing fanfiction, but once it's written, I can't do anything with it. I can't sell it, I have to make sure it's properly labeled as fan fiction.

I wrote an eight story Discworld fanfiction, and the story is (in my opinion) incredible. But I can't sell it. So - I had to create an entirely new universe, a new planet, a new country, a new form of magic, all new characters and gave story #1 a try. It was a lot of work but it's selling quite well, I'm currently working on Story #2.

The moral is - fanfiction is what you make of it. I find it fun being able to take characters that I love and give them new adventures. Unfortunately there's a lawyer behind every rock, so I don't do it very often.

Unfortunately, Boise State came back to beat Utah State, so the Lobos probably won't be hosting the championship game.

There will probably be a four-way tie for first place. Right now SDSU, Boise State and UNM are tied and UNLV plays there last game tomorrow and will probably win to join the tie, but SDSU beat Boise, and Boise beat UNM and UNM beat SDSU. UNLV lost to both UNM and Boise, so they probably won't be in the race even if they do win tomorrow.

The ranking will probably be determined by the final standings in the national football poll.

It's cold outside and the clouds have moved in. We'll be getting precipitation this afternoon and it's a tossup as to whether it will be snow or sleet so I'm going to stay inside. It'll be a week before we see temperatures above the thirties with precipitation expected each day.

There's hot coffee brewing and the teapot is hot. There is still some banana pudding and pumpkin roll left over from Thanksgiving on the counter. I see the turkey and stuffing was all eaten.

I'll be over in the corner working away on my story. Only two scenes left to write before editing. I just may make the deadline after all ...

Tomorrow is the last time we will see temperatures above freezing for a week. Several lows in the single digits (negative teens for the civilized world). Way too early in the winter for this much cold.

At least I'm getting writing done. 7.5K on the draft for my Pink Orchid novel. I'm pretty happy with the writing too. I'm going to try to finish this chapter, then do a bunch of grading before coming back to writing.

That’s a good amount, especially to be satisfied with. Do you aim for a certain number of words each time you write?

In drafting mode, I would like to write 5-6K a day on average. Some days are better, some worse. I have had too many worse recently. When I'm "in the groove" I can write about 10K of draft a day. But I haven't been able to really get there in a few months. This is the first time I feel close. And if it wasn't for students turning in their assignments, I could stay there.

Now that’s a target to aim for!! I may try for 5

3" of snow so far, and it's tapering off. C said it started around 6. Weather prognosticators are telling us it'll turn to sleet around 2:00 and rain until late evening.

New Barstow story going live tomorrow. "Mom wants a piece of daughter's boyfriend." That'll draw some views.

All my contest stories for the year are done, I didn't quite make 1,000,000 words published on Lit this year, but 800k is good enough. I published 8 books this year, I could probably make it 9 if I push, but is it worth it? I'm going to take it easy for a month and write what I want before I start worrying about contests and books again.

I just gave up on a story I've been working on for a long time. I am a little disappointed in myself because it was a cool idea. I just couldn't execute it properly.

But it's also a relief... I don't have to struggle with it anymore and I've got several sex scenes I could use in other stories. And saying it out loud is somehow freeing as well, so thank you for humoring me.
