The AH Coffee Shop and Reading Room 09

I have not, but it's suddenly moved way, way up my priority list. There's a Hershey store not too far from me, so I might have to see if they can make me a "Nuclear Fairy" (feels like the right name for the drink, right?)
For best effect drizzle thick chocolate syrup or caramel on top.
No but it sounds like a great idea.
At the very least it lasts longer.
I never tried freezing whipped cream in the first place, but I did put vanilla ice cream in my hot cocoa. It didn’t last long, but it left a nice flavor.
Around here it's sold frozen, so it's as simple as not thawing it out. It's similar to putting ice cream in (Which is also awesome btw) it doesn't last quite as long though and doesn't affect the flavor to quite the same degree.

Actually, I was referring to a tub of Cool Whip™ in the 'fridge. Why would you freeze whip cream?

It's Thanksgiving morning and there's a lot of work to get done before everyone gets together for dinner so I'll keep this short.

There's coffee brewing and the teapot is hot. Donuts and pumpkin pie on the counter. There's more hot cocoa if anyone wants it.

I probably won't be over in the corner writing today so if the pot is empty, refill it. I'll be back tomorrow.

We received a very lovely Thanksgiving e-mail from our "adopted" son this morning.

He's not really adopted in the traditional sense, he adopted us 20 years ago when he was a teenager interning for the arts association my wife ran at the time. He had a very unstable home, and sought our company and guidance, and graciously accepted our support when that support was the order of the day.

In his note he outlined his T-day and the challenges of having a traditional American feast, being stationed in India as a State Department officer. He humored us in his report of maneuvering out of participating in the office gathering, "11 children 0-7. No!" So he ordered-in a roast chicken from a South African chain restaurant, and reported baking a pumpkin pie to share with co-workers yesterday, saying that was about his celebratory limit. Yeah, he got that from us, mostly my wife.

He closed in thanking the two of us. "You both taught me to expect more from life and to maintain high standards - and here I am now!"

I've really missed having a forum-style community as opposed to social media. I havent been here long but I'm really happy I decided to join in.

Haha, you better get to know us first. People around here are mostly either self-important old men, or pretentious twats, or both. Like many authors, I suppose.

But welcome, nonetheless.

Happy thanksgiving to all who celebrate. I am thankful for y’all. And this thread.

Cool Whip™

Ha!

I was watching TV at our usual restaurant yesterday, and a commercial came on for the new, improved "Life Alert". You know, that scam-ish pushbutton thingy marketed to us old folks to summon help if we fall down and remain conscious but are unable to get up off the floor. Well...

The "call this number" graphic was headlined with "Life Alert". The subhead, "I've fallen and I can't get up!®"

Since when did this perennial joke become a trademark? I'm going to find a way to work this into one of my stories, registered symbol and all. Something else that caught my attention? The catchphrase is all over their website, without the "®". So which is it? Open invitation for parody, which I'm certain that SNL has incorporated into one or more sketches.

No craftiness this morning, the cooking skills are coming out to shine. I excel at Turkey.

Tom scoping out a hen. He will be a dinner guest soon.

I was debating about starting a thread on this but decided it's probably more just a casual observation thing.

But does anyone else often wonder what story exactly made a new follower follow them?

Sometimes it's obvious, you'll see a notification that they added a story to Favorites then another saying they Followed you.

But I often get random Follows with no hint as to why; no Favorites, no Comments, on any of my stories, old or new.

Part of me wants to reach out them them in email or something and ask, but I never do.
