Here are two scenarios, neither is groundbreaking but they work for what you want to do here.
1. "It's the economy, stupid." She needs money to make ends meet. Tries an "OnlyFans" account first, but growth is slow and she is not bringing in sufficient money. I've had a few ideas on this topic I've never managed to finish.

The next day after the meetings she goes back to the bar in the same outfit. Someone sends her a drink...
This could be the same man from the night before or a different one with the same idea.
2. Wife is on a road trip to meet up with her family for a vacation or family reunion or something. She stops at a truck stop because she needs sleep and plans to crash out in her car. She goes into the stop and gets some food and sits at a table. A truck driver nearby starts a conversation. Similar to the above, she's mistaken as a lot lizard and leaves in a huff back to her car. Unable to sleep, she gets out and walks around the lot. She passes by the trucks and several windows roll down with men asking if she's looking for fun. She ignores them while being turned on at the same time. Heading back to the car another old, fat man asks her if she's working which she ignores. She goes back home and finds she really enjoyed her time there, so she has to find new ways to sell herself.

my ex-wife took anthrolpology then left me for her anthropology prof, so maybe I'm biased but from what I learned helping her study, anthropology is full of shit. All theory and speculation based on partial facts.

Great thought. I'd very much go for that one.
However we're talking initial steps down the road to full-time prostitution. That still leaves her in the realm of fantasising. It would need something big actually to tip her over the edge into taking clients for money. A shock to the family's finances of some kind, maybe?

Another great idea. I'd have this upper-class female maybe even aristocratic? And she'd be totally indignant at having to adopt the penny-pinching and living in the kind of downmarket accommodation that she sees as the place of "common herd" students.
