The AH Coffee Shop and Reading Room 09

Did we switch sports in there? Or do I just not follow them well enough to tell the difference between football and baseball? :ROFLMAO:
We switched sports. I don't follow football, especially colege ball.
I resumed watching baseball after not following it for many years back in 2018 (aka the "first cancer adventure") when I was too weak to get upoff the couch, but could reach the remote control. It turned out to be a good time eater that balanced The Food Network, HGTV and the news networks.

It used to be that baseball ended in the first week of October. A month later...

I'm not a sports fan, save light interest in golf, and women's volleyball. The seasons for the "big four" - baseball, football, basketball, and hockey - have all expanded to cover as much broadcast time as possible. And it's gotten far, far worse as corporate bookmakers have taken over everything. When the majors aren't live, they've invented these absolutely ridiculous "games" to fill TV time, mostly as opportunities to gamble. On a streaming channel, somewhere, there's got to be a competitive dodgeball game on, place your bets here.

Tired of it all. Tired of the diversion of money to make the obscenely rich even more so.

i went through a womn's volleyball period a few yearsago, but somehow, the scheduling of the games became to hsrd to follow. Did enjoy the sex appeal though.

Uh huh. I liken it to watching ballet, 'cept with scoring. I let the interest lapse for a number of years, and it's taken me two seasons to adjust to rally scoring. I coached/refereed HS tourneys when I was in college, so, honestly, most of this residual interest is technical. (Hate to watch the men. It's all about cramming it down their throats. Brutish. No strategy to speak of.)

You're right about the scheduling, and the odd season - late August through finals in November. And you can't see any matches now without a streaming subscription. Annoying.

No interest in beach volleyball, however, even given the bikinis the players favor.

We've had a beautiful day. I toiled over tomatoes and chores this morning then went to the grocery story for the week's lunch stuff. I threw the doors open when I got back and spent an hour on the patio with my shoes off, watching the piñon burning in the chiminea while the sun dropped behind the trees.

Took some time to consider the holiday contest entry that I started a couple months ago. I think I finally have a story. What I don't know is if I have time to write it.

It's easy. Just don't sleep.

I didn't mean this seriously, but as it turned out, I neither slept or wrote. Now working on coffee after which I will see if I can write. I have over 4 1/2 hours before life starts to catch up with me today.

This is the secret that "morning people" have figured out. If you're up before everyone else, it's like getting some extra time for whatever you want. My personal favorite thing about getting up early is that I get to be the one to pick the first thing I do every day.

Today it's writing my first outlines for my Jasmine Tea story.

What I want Ican't seem to find.
Sorry, I know this isnt the time or thread to dump my depression. At least not til I finish my coffee.

After two nights of sleeping with a pillow under my knee, I woke up pain-free this morning and I'm much more hopeful that my knee hasn't given out on me yet. @sirhugs - we're here if you want to dump anything on us. We'll listen and talk to you whenever you want.

Right now, I've got a fresh pot of coffee going and the teapot is hot. There are donuts on the counter along with a cornbread I made. The bowl of left-over Halloween candy is finally running low so it will be gone soon.

I'll be over in the corner finishing up my story. It should be done my Friday, and I can finally get to work on skinning the plot bunny that's been nagging at me for the last month or so ...

Trust me - an adjustable bed with a "zero g" setting is worth the money. The lift at the knees helps with the back, the hips, and the knees. The lift at the head improves respiration. It's like we weren't designed for sleeping on a flat surface or... we loose that magical ability.

Madam Beta/Editor has deemed it worthy and granted me permission to publish my next story, so my next journey onto the planet Kodu begins - Gods Save The Queen Book 2 - Warrior Duchess. Now everything goes on hold so I can concentrate on A Harmonica for Hannukah. I promised oh she of the red pencil that I would stop coming up with a snappy title then writing a story around it... but I can't help myself. It's like a coffee addiction, with an attached keyboard.

I found a Milk Dud on my desk left uneaten from last night's candy snack. I had Milk Dud flavored coffee this morning.

That would be kinda dangerous around here. The dog can smell chocolate from a mile away, and you know about chocolate and dogs. It wouldn't be there in the morning.

But, then, how much of it was actually chocolate? I read an article (NYT?) last week about chocolate candies having much less actual chocolate these days due to cocoa bean shortages and sharply increased costs, including tariffs. The difference is enough to force the big-name candy makers into re-labeling product with weasel words like "a chocolate-flavored confection" and similar euphemisms.

The solution to my particular chocolate habit is clearly labeled real chocolate products like chocolate chips where the cocoa percentage is specified. Ghirardelli does that.

I'm actually off sweets and eating a carnivore diet with minimal vegetables and fruit.

Yeah, I'm working on a subset of that. My concern is increased cholesterol that comes along with dietary fats, and I'm already on two meds for it. We'll know more in a week when I go in for blood tests.

But no, I've cut sugars and such substantially since my diabetes diagnosis. Interestingly, it's been recently discovered that chocolates with >70% cocoa content are actually positive for diabetics. Very little sugar, and more of the good things like antioxidants with the genuine article. I'm already spoiled... we have some semi-sweet chocolate chips C keeps around to embellish her breakfast oatmeal. They're a mere 60%, and I don't like them nearly like I used to. Gotta have the hard stuff!
