Adding a “Part 2” to my Story’s Title

I thought incorrectly that Part 2 would get added to my second story if it was added to a Series. So now I have a Part 1 and a base title with no part designation.

Is there anyway to edit the just the title?

Thanks!

You'll have to resubmit Part 2, and name it, Part 2. But if you plan more than ten chapters, name it Part 02, otherwise you'll have a wonderful fuck-up when you get to Parts 10 and 11, and the whole thing goes out of order.

The joining up algorithm runs automatically, on an alphanumeric sort.

I think OP made a manual series.

Your advice about resubmitting is still sound.

I think so too, but there's only one way to fix it.

It's much easier to rely on the auto-connect algorithm until you know how it all works, then you can go outside the usual chapter numbering system, with confidence that it will present the way you want it to.

Yep!

Well, fuck. I wish I had gotten that tip sooner. I'm waiting on the last 3 out of 28 parts of a story to post before I risk trying to manually sort them and potentially screw everything up.

Resubmitting an edit for the title is certainly an option.

If it were me (and it has been in the past), I would drop a note to Laurel asking her to correct the title for me without resubmitting. My experience was a few years back and she seems busier now than ever, so if you do drop her a note, there is no guarantee that your results will be the same as mine.

Yes, I can see the problems in your story sequence, on your page.

Having sorted out sequencing problems of my own, using the Manual Series function when it was first introduced, there shouldn't be a problem if you create a Manual Series now, before the last three chapters go up.

Your story is already set up as a series, with the cocked up chapter numbering because you missed the leading zero for Chapters 1 - 9.

Convert it to a Manual Series, and it should be easy to re-arrange the out of sequence first chapters. There's an up down toggle against each chapter, when you go to Manual, to change the sequence.

It will go off to the site for approval (I have no idea why), but it will be quicker, I think, than any other way of fixing it. The good news is, you won't need to change any titles.

I'd give it a go. You won't lose any meta-data or comments, and you won't accidentally lose any of the chapters. It'll just force the chapter joining up stuff so it works in the write (right) order.

Ha! Famous last words. After reading about all the people that have had stories pending for weeks, months, etc. I've been very, very lucky that all my parts have been approved without issue. I'm very reluctant to tempt fate when I only have 3 more days to go at this point.

Well yes, that's a sensible caution. Meanwhile, readers can be clever, and the ones worth having, who are reading your story, will probably have figured it out. Or they've found the sequence really doesn't matter (but that's a bit of a rude thing to say ;))

I figured it safe enough to assume that even a below average reader could likely figure out that the next part after "1" was "2" and not, in fact, "10"
