If you are having a lengthy delay in publishing, please add the name of your story and when submitted here.

Currently have two stories stuck pending (even after the delete and go again routine)

A third story uploaded last night in expectation of the long wait is given the new badge within hours and will publish tomorrow

Appreciate the good when it happens.

My suspicion is that she scan reads the first 1K words or so, looking for anything that triggers a need to check more carefully.
That's 200,000-250,000 words per day, or a novel or two every day.
There is plenty of evidence that she at least glances at every story.
What evidence? And if that's true, why are the so many false positives?
Could I do this for 200 stories a day for a quarter century, even scan reading just the starts? No f-ing way. My brain is mush after one day grading 100 papers.
And that's why I'm sekptical.

Yes but:

A) I don't think it's acceptable to post them
B) the other ones I post on have a fraction of the readership
I don't think posting links to other sites is allowed, but if you go to your favorite search engine, you should be able to find plenty of them.

I know people who read more than a novel a day and work a full-time job as well.

There have been past discussions of stories that were clearly read. I will mention one, Frances Scott's how to for html editing. I had her suggest some tags for me on an early story before I was adding tags. She clearly read the story (or skimmed significant parts of it to suggest them). There have been literally dozens of examples mentioned in threads here already.

Detecting AI is hard. It will never be perfect. I posted a thread about two months ago asking whether people thought the site erred to much on allowing AI in, too much on rejecting human written or got it right. No one commented that they were rejecting too much human written. It was about fifty-fifty between it was about right and they were still allowing to much AI in. Laurel has made her call and is trying to live with that. The overall author community approves of where the line is drawn. If you wanted to use any of the online checkers that you seem convinced they use, they would allow an enormous amount of obvious AI in to have so few rejections.

I doubt many people could do what Laurel does, but that is a big part of why this site thrived with what is honestly crappy technology and lousy UX design. I have never met anyone who could have done my job when I was working on the industry side. And I have been told by several highly experienced people working for me that that was true, so it's not just my ego talking. No one else in the world can do what Ohtani does. There are unique talents out there and it is a gift when you talent i afford the opportunity like Laurel's has been. Having worked at this for over a quarter century is part of why she can do this, but I suspect very few people could do her job even if given the opportunity.

I believe you are skeptical because you don't want to believe it for personal reasons. You cannot let it be true.

I just want to remove a story. It's been pending since 10/22. I just want re-submit the story with a different title and some minor changes
Go to your story (I assume still in pending.) Look for the little settings icon. Click it. When the menu pops up, there should be a Delete button. Click that, click yes (or delete completely), and the story is gone. Out of the system. Then you can start over.

Make sure you have a copy of the story and remember what category and tags you wanted to use.

I've run several of my storis from 2006-09, before AI writing was a thing, through AI detectors, and they often get very high AI scores. Anyone could replicate that.

Is seven days normal for a Story Game?
I've been waiting on this one, and it's usually 3 days or so for approval.

Not many new stories published today, judging by what I could see in different categories. Many of them are really short stories written by new authors.

Either way, far below the average of several months ago, and we already know it's not due to the lack of submissions. Whatever has been going on in the past few months, it's not over yet, by a longshot.

Too bad for the lack of alternatives.

Is cutting out the AI the problem? Are they getting bombarded by slop, even from people using old author accounts?

Nah, that's not it. The slop has been here for a year at least, likely longer. Something changed a few months ago.

We don’t know what the problem is. We can only speculate. I know, from earlier convos with the site, that the prevalence of AI submissions was problematic for them. And for every genuine writer who gets erroneously caught, you can just imagine how many wholly AI-written submissions they get.

If that's the actual spelling and punctuation of your chapters, that first full stop for Part 8 (Claire.) will cock up the automatic chapter sequencing system, and your chapters will get published in the wrong order.
