According to Cornell Law there really isn't a clear difference between 'detained' and 'arrested'. Its really that crap you see on tv where someone tells the police charge me or I'm leaving.
Blah, blah, blah, blah. The courts have ruled that there is a difference, even SCOTUS has chimed in. Bottom line, if you aren't in cuffs on your way to the holding cell, you were detained.
