Welcome, borrowers, thieves and kidnappers!

Have you ever fantasised about entering someone else's world? Wanted to insert your own stories into a popular franchise? Or steal characters from literature, film, television or games and make them do your bidding? Then "Borrowed Plumes" is the challenge for you!

This author event is all about fan fic. Homages, continuations and downright theft of established works of fiction. Remember when Ross and Monica discovered they made out once - how far did they go? Who can watch Avon and Servalan and not see the sexual tension between the two most ruthless minds in the galaxy? How about Luke, Leia - and Vader? And everyone knows there was something between Holmes and Watson...

When: 1 September 2026-25 September 2026, stories published as they're submitted with a complete anthology being published on 30 September 206
Who: This event is open to everyone with a dirty mind and the most basic grasp of writing
What: Erotic fan fic stories, drawing from any source you want - but remember this rule from Literotica's Content Guidelines: "(...) we DO NOT publish works of any type featuring the following content: (...) Celebrity stories or fan fiction in which the characters are artificially aged - that is, under 18 years old in reality or in the source material, but made to be over 18 for the story." Also, you may write fan fic of stories by other writers here on Lit, but remember to get their permission first! No express permission means no story.

There's some discussion in the original thread. Feel free to have a look there to see what's gone before, but this is the official support thread. Come here to ask your questions, to shout out your enthusiasm or to grumble about your struggles. And don't forget to say thank you to @Bamagan for suggesting the title for this event!

So happy writing, everyone, and I look forward to reading your perverted twists on innocent stories in September!

Just to clarify, since the context has been lost here while copy-pasting from the content rules: this is what you CANNOT do. Lit requires that characters in your fanfic be already 18 or over in the original source material.

Yes, this means no shipping of Harry with Hermione.

Good catch, thanks! I'll edit the OP.

That’s good all the characters in Casablanca will definitely over 18 and even the actors most if not all are long since dead.

Borrowed Plumes is a great title.

I make the same offer I made for the Virtual Literotica Convention event here. If someone wants to borrow my characters and universe, let me know and it can be discussed. Happy writing, y’all.

I can't help wondering about the fact that the epilogue of Deathly Hallows takes place "Nineteen Years Later," when Harry and Hermione are both well into their thirties. And there's a whole stage production set after that. I assume someone could do HP fanfic if it's clearly set in or after that era, right?

The overall consensus is no. If the characters are mostly associated with their adventures while they're underage, you can't use an epilogue as a loophole.

I want to participate in this, but feel like I completely shot my wad (so to speak) with Kendra last year.

Maybe something else will pop up though. Guess we'll see. :)

It’s probably best not to write much Harry Potter stuff anyway. A lot of artists get review bombed for working with that universe even if they don’t share JK Rowling’s unfortunate ultra conservative views. Plenty of other great universes out there. The lead time for this event gives authors time to research if needed.

Very good point. Although I'd use a stronger word for JKR's attitude than "unfortunate".

Authors have previously reported getting a rejection that says "We do not publish J. K. Rowling, Simpsons, or Disney fanfiction." Taken literally that would seem to include even characters who are adults in the original material, though looking at what does get published "Disney" seems to mean the animated stuff rather than all Disney properties.

My best guess is that these three brands are so strongly associated with kids that L+M felt it was unsafe to go there at all.

It should also be noted that Lit does not like to publish stories featuring political or religious figures. JKR’s expression of her views has made her quite political, so I doubt any story about her would be published. This also means a lot of historical and celebrity fanfics are out. But there are still many other subjects to explore if you look for them.

I also heard Lit doesn’t publish Archie Comics fanfic. Pity, lots of hot characters in Riverdale. And that Sabrina chick has always enchanted me. But oh well.

Oh, and Lit also has recently taken a stance against NC and Mind Control in fanfic. This means you can’t have orcs capturing and torturing Arwen or Dr Strange mind tricking Clea into sex. Me Too blackmailing is a no-no also. Although it’s still ok to have someone stand up forcefully against such things.
