Been pending for 24 days

It's so ridiculous. If the admins don't want to do their jobs, then the least they could do is not get in our way and let us post freely.
Ah, no. It's in their responsibility to make sure that no illegal stuff gets posted here. Otherwise they might get sued and this whole site gets taken down.
It buggers me as much as any writer, that it takes them so long and also that there are A LOT of false positives about AI-usage... but I'd prefer it if Literotica stays open and free of charge.

Ok, but a story website where too many people can't get their stories published on top of no one replying to messages/emails is not good. I've just given up trying. Just writing for myself now and getting feedback from AI because that's the only other audience I have. Maybe one day something will change, but who knows (and no, Fictionpress doesn't count since not many people leave comments, so I don't know what they think of the story/characters/etc.).

Yeah, I agree. I need a story deleted because it's about to be published as a novel on Kindle Unlimited. It's been pending for two weeks. I can't release the story on KU until it's off of here, and at this point, it's fucking with my business. I'm actively starting to hate this site. Between the absolutely ancient site design, the lack of tools available to authors, the glacial approval process, the lack of editing capabilities, and the excuse of 'it's just two people', it is becoming impossible. I can't engage with fans, I can't reply to comments, there is no communication between admin and authors, the ones that make the site possible at all and, and they don't seem to care just how awful the site is for users. It's unconscionable. If they can't handle the workload, which they clearly can't, hire more people. The site certainly makes enough that they can afford it.

Why exactly do your stories have to be deleted here before the release of them in KU? Is that a copyright thing? Or do you personally want them gone here? Just asking because I'm thinking of self-publishing some of my stuff.

To take advantage of Kindle Unlimited, the story cannot be available anywhere else. I can't even have it on my Patreon behind a paywall, or set up my own website and sell it directly. You're allowed to 'stub' the story, and there is a limit of five chapters or less, but that's it. If you try to sell it or offer it other places (for free or otherwise), you can have your account banned on KDP.

There's advantages and disadvantages to KU. The big one is as AbbeFarla said, it cannot be available anywhere else. I have a couple of novels on Amazon thru an ebook publisher who does only KU and that's a pretty strict rule.

On the other hand, if you self piblish thru Draft 2 Digital (or Smashwords, now owned by D2D), they will publish on all the sellers for you (just not KU obviously) and you can do both ebook and Print on Demand - much wider distribition but NOT KU. There's advantages to that approach too - and for my self-publishing, that's what I'm intending to do.

I'm getting around the stubbing by building out the stories, retitling as well as expanding in some cases, and just expanding in others. I may delete one or two if I decide to publish them and it's not possible to "grow" them. LOL

If you haven't been able to get your stories published here, go to Storiesonline - https://storiesonline.net/

Not as many readers as LIT but you won't have the same problems getting your stories up

I'm a big believer in not having all my eggs in one basket and I loathe a lot of Zon policies when it comes to publishing, but I can't ignore them as a first time author. I released the book first on an indie site that specializes in haremlit (what I write) and other erotica, but removed last week in preparation for the KU release. The owner is fine with that. I want to leave it up on KU for at least six months before doing a wide release and trying to grow a market outside of their ecosystem. It might cost me some revenue but I don't want to be beholden to whatever new way Amazon comes up with to screw over authors next. I know D2D is one option and I've also talked to another company called Book Baby, but I haven't made any decision about what path I'm going to take when the time comes.

Good thinking. I've been feeling my way into it too but my driver was I wanted it to be easy for me LOL. D2D looks pretty straightforward - I opened an account there and started working thru their training stuff and it looks straightforward enough - and I don't want the hassle of dealing with Amazon myself. My ebook publisher does that for me and take their cut and I'm happy with that.

Wait a second ... you guys make money out of this? I've been treating this as a labour of love and haven't ever considered writing as a money-making venture...

It's not making me rich but it pays for my coffee LOL

I split my work - I do some stories for Literotica (most) and I write some to publish - altho I am inteneding to do more self-publishing and publishing going forward

The big thing when you publish is to make sure it's not crap - and all too many self-published books can be

Yeah, similar history here: I began reading here about 20 years ago. Found some gems, but many were shallow, dumb and gross. It infuriated me so much, that I began writing 'better' stories (I do recognize that 'better' is subject to each individuals own opinion) and presented them here.
Now, I got curious and think of publishing them as Kindle books and as print editions as books-on-demand. I won't make a living out of it, but maybe I get this or that Euro (German here).

About other self-published books... Wow, those can be real crap; read some of them when I devoured stories about personal work experiences from nurses, policemen, cashiers. Others were just hilarious, captivating, insightful.

My original (and rather bad) story that I posted here, way back in ought-4, caught the attention of an indie author. He felt that, despite the story's many flaws, it might good enough to publish if I cleaned it up a bit and learned the difference between there, their, and they're. I appreciated his kindness but never took it seriously. And this was well before Amazon was a thing, and there weren't many avenues open for indie authors just yet. But a few years ago, I started reading haremlit and grew unsatisfied with the quality of many of the books that were getting published and selling on places like KU. I felt I could make something better, and I started to write the one that's up now. It was never written with LitErotica in mind, but a few months after I started posting it on Royal Road, I remembered I had an account here, long dormant, and reactivated it to see if I could find an audience that was more receptive to a bit of spice. Royal Road can be a bit prudish at times. They have a smut limit and will yank your story if you ignore their warnings. And, reactivating the account here has been the best thing for me as far as audience engagement. Additionally, a full 75% of my Patreon members have come over from this site. This is why the admin's refusal to bring the website into even the 2010s as far as functionality is so heart breaking. There is such a loyal audience here, and they are hungry for quality content. Yet the site hamstrings authors with their archaic features and restrictive rules.

But I fully intend to make money off my novels. Between the initial sale on the indie website over the summer and my patreon, which has been going for well over a year now, I've made 4-5k USD on my novel. A lot of that has gone to cover artwork and editing, but I'm hoping that with the release of book two, and taking book one to Amazon once the story is deleted here, will be enough to cover all my expenses and I can start rebuilding my savings.
