I have posted before about my love of female musical artists. I’ve always been attracted to their emotional sensitivity/intelligence, musical talent, sophistication, intellect, presence, and physical musical expressiveness. So I thought maybe we could celebrate them!

I wondered if anyone else has a similar appreciation, so I thought I’d strike up a thread and find out! If you don’t then this might turn into a very self-indulgent thread! But if you do, then please share and write a little something about what it is about them that you find special.

So I will start. I’m going to go first with Hania Rani. I’m sure future posts will be shorter than this, so caution… I may gush here 😛

A proper crush! She’s an incredible musician and composer. As a musical person myself, I find her compositions very inspiring. When I watched her recording of her concert in Invalides, in Paris, my heart just instantly melted.

I realise this isn’t everyone’s favourite type of music, but the way she touches the piano, her singing, the way she moves and physically engages with the music! How she goes into a state of flow when she is in the moment of the music, bringing us along with her! The beauty & simple sophistication of her music. The feeling that she puts into it. The technical skill. I told you I’ll be gushing, didn’t I?

I recommend watching it all, but if you want an instant hit of what I’m talking about, head straight to her performance of Buka at 32m, watch her get lost in it, smiling, having a joyous, beautiful moment right in front of us. And continue to watch the next song Ghosts which is very beautiful, about ghosts who fall in love. Her performance of Esja in this concert is excellent too.

So that’s enough from me, who are your favourite female musical artists, and why?

One of my favorites: Janet Jackson

Her music was fresh and sexy, and she helped usher in the pop princess + dancing combo we see today. A lot of folks followed her blueprint.

Many... however, when I first heard Elizabeth Fraser of the Cocteau Twins for the first time over 30 years ago I was totally captured.

First EP heard then promptly purchased:

Ann Wilson (Heart)
Stevie Nicks (Fleetwood Mac)
Pat Benatar

All these ladies were and still are great vocalist.

I saw Stevie Nicks about two years ago and still brought the house down.

If you wanna hear just a raw soulful big voice........give blues singer Beth Hart a listen !!

Martina McBride was another powerhouse singer to have been so small. I have seen her 4 times and she always had flawless vocals !!
