The government shuts down. Another spectacular MAGA failure.

In an effort to appear sane, Majorie Taylor Greene says ACA healthcare credits shouldn’t expire. She garbled the message, which hurt her chance to appear sane, but at least she’s trying.

In a lengthy post on the social platform X, Greene said she’s “absolutely disgusted” that health insurance premiums could double if the Affordable Care Act (ACA) tax credits expire, even as she stressed her strong opposition to the Obama-era legislation and to health insurance in general.

Unfortunately, most Republican representatives continue to reject sanity.
Wow Scary! Greene is in a position to legislate on this and is working on a premise that premiums will double when they will not change at all. There is a slight adjustment up or down as the market is a market. But in no way will premiums change more the +-3% if that.
Second, she thinks there are tax credits for Health care in the ACA. There is not and never has been tax credits for Health care from the ACA marketplace.

I never understood how healthcare became the Republican hill to die on. How can you legitimately argue that only the wealthy should have healthcare?
How are Republican's n this hill to die? The democrats added the elimination of the covid subsidies for marketplace insurance from the Big Beautiful Bill and voted for the Big Beautiful Bill. The Affordable Care Act does not include any subsidies, tax credits or assistance of any kind.

Of course the MAGATs don't want to reconvene because the day the House sits again will be the day a vote is passed to release the Epstein Files.

They are certainly not too concerned with tax dollars being spent otherwise they wouldn't have subsidized Argentina to produce the soya beans for China that American farmers are prevented from selling.

Luckily for the MAGAts, there are plenty of farmers dumb enough that they can't work out why they are being stiffed by a billionaire.

Ran across this whole statement that was actually an X or tweet.
You cherry picked a line off it so you could make it say something incorrect.
Here is the start of the statement. Clearly states what I have been saying all along. The democrats made healthcare unaffordable.

"I was not in Congress when all this Obamacare, “Affordable Care Act” bullshit started. I got here in 2021. As a matter of fact, the ACA made health insurance UNAFFORDABLE for my family after it was passed, with skyrocketing premiums higher than our house payment."

The real poetic justice (poetic karma?) is going to be when J. D. Vance takes ownership of those farmer’s properties through “AcreTrader”…

MAGAt are such uninformed (lying / gaslighting???) dumbfucks…

😑

The ACA is ACTUAL healthcare that ACTUALLY COVERS HEALTHCARE COSTS.

Maaaaaany "affordable" healthcare plans, before the ACA was passed, did NOT cover maaaaaany major expenses, and entire families’ were destroyed by a single family member’s medical bills resulting from "preexisting conditions" or services / procedures / medications that were NOT covered by those "affordable" healthcare plans.

Hope that ^ helps.

That would be so awesome if Trump wanted to cut healthcare.
What it has done is provided the opportunity to see the obamacare bill, that 3000 page debacle that crippled US heath care, stand on its own. No cash influx from climate or covid bills. Obamacare was designed to suck as much money out of government as possible. Soon it will be obvious the complete failure it is.
Not really. But Repubs ended up agreeing on it and then pulled the rug out from under it as it left the building by saying we’re taking back a lot of money we agreed to so suck it. So it struggled. But fundamentally it’s not so off from other insurance that relies on healthy pools to offset ailing pools.

What we have to hope is there is someone that can write a healthcare bill that removes government oversight and funding. As long as pelosi's crew is not the one that writes it it should be better. Republican's, it will be America first!
Republicans couldn’t get rid of ACA, so what makes you think they can improve on it. There is clear evidence repubs don’t care about citizens healthcare.

Trump is no more shutting down the government now than Obama did in 2014. In both cases Congress didn't cough up the money to keep things running so it wasn't a matter of ordering a shutdown, it was just a matter of running out of money.
Are you sure you’re paying attention?

I wish Trump would do some government retaliation to his enemies, demand prosecution by the government of his enemies.
He is.

But he cannot and won't even try.
He is.

The previous president did not do anything. We are still trying to find out who the puppeteers were. Little by little.
Well, let’s see which president gets ranked higher for actually doing more for the American people.

You talk in circles.
Repeating where this started and in denial 900$ monthly premiums are in no way affordable. Nor is a 9000$ deductible.

If your point is that the ACA doesn't go far enough, you're right. But I suspect what you really want is a return to the days when you could get ostensibly cheaper coverage that wouldn't really cover anything. That is what the ACA did away with.

The ACA increased premiums to fund insurance companies and ceded control of what may be covered to government control. In the process of making coverage uncontrollably out of reach the indemnity was eliminated. Parts of state control were eliminated or modified in insurance companies favor, while on the face states left ceremoniously in control.
The ACA doesn’t cover much more than an annual physical. While I’ve never met my full deductible, I’ve noticed no one else does either.
The ACA forces exorbitant premiums and out of pocket expense.

That's one way of rephrasing "the ACA put a stop to fraudulent policies that didn't really cover anything, and stopped the insurance industry from prioritizing profit over health." But why would you want to put it that way?

I've never felt any effect from a shutdown, nor have most people. What they're really afraid of is that if this goes on for a while, we might realize that we can live perfectly fine with less government.

It looks like you might get a chance to put that simplistic theory to a test.

Give it time.
