I love when Newsom says that Red states are crime hellholes. He is right. It is Blue (black) cities in those otherwise lovely Red states. I want him to focus on murder rates in Jackson, MS and Memphis and New Orleans.
I also agree that my tax money should not be helping bring down crime in those cities. Better to expand national parks and clean rivers.

Wrong. If you omit the largest cities in the red states but NOT in the blue states, the violent crime rate in red states is still about 12% higher.
