It depended where we were going and what mood suited the occasion , mostly if we were going clubbing I'd be instructed to wear a relatively revealing outfit to accentuate I'm without underwear, if we were dining something more appropriate for public modesty but once again no bra and no panties sometimes a toy would be included to spice things up , it extremely difficult to sit through a meal when your partner has the remote and try not to draw attention to yourself.

Thinking about this more, it's probably somewhere between having pride and wanting validation that the woman you're with is a good choice, at least aesthetically. Daft part about that is beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

Not all men do. MrsStromers ex was a control freak and made her dress very conservative. She always had to have a bra on, no visible pokies, skirts almost to her knees etc.. They used to attend lots of events when the little black dress was the attire for the women and hers weren't so little, lots of coverage.
