Robert Jordan was definitely from the same school of writing that George R.R. Martin was from: pages and pages of unnecessary detail.

I've read Hyperion but not the second book. It was a great book but a little dense and hard to read for me, but I think Simmon had some very neat ideas that could turn out to be pretty prescient, especially around AI.In keeping with the sci-fi genre, any fans of Dan Simmon’s Hyperion and The Fall of Hyperion?
