The Autumnal Equinox has awlays felt like the start of a new year for me -- probably because it occurs in the fall, coinciding with my school year starting, when I was young. New books, new classmates, new adventures. It so happens that today is the Jewish New Year too.

I'm an Autumn person, I love this season! It really does feel like the beginning of something.

I still don't get where the horses come in, though.
A common misconception. Equinox is a univerbation of 'equine' and 'ox' and refers to when the year of the horse and the year of the ox coincide because of discrepancies between the Cantonese and Mandarin zodiacs. It's less fun than the Snog (snake and dog year), although that's just an opinion of course.

Happy Spring Equinox :) Spring starts on 1 September here (the wattles start flowering in August), so the Equinox may not get as much attention. But it still feels good.
